Hi Russell, sorry to hear about Oscar obviously a well loved pet, just backing up what stew said. (1) We don't pull a car either, it would get in the way.We want to go anywhere we use the Jess. We always find parking, never been beaten yet. (2) Post we have two good friends UK and Guernsey (where we used to live) and they let us know when there is a bit to send and we get them to post it to which ever camp site we are on (after asking kind guardian if OK) we usually receive it in about a week. (3) Never been one to wash cars/vans etc. but it has to be done usually do the top 3/4 times a year, rest of van easy with long car wash brush.
I think this is where the full timing doctrine kicks in. What people must remember is you have ALL the time in the world to do your "chores". People are so used to running around chasing time they forget. Whether we are travelling, cleaning Jess, washing up, walking, doing cross words, learning French or shopping, you have all the time in the world to do it. I used to hate shopping and Supermarket shopping in particular. Now I look on it as an adventure, take your time, open your eyes and you'll be amazed at the things you didn't see whilst you were hurrying around.
Remember, to full timers we are not on holiday, today is another day in your motorhome lifestyle just like people with houses. Enjoy each day as it comes and remember too that there is no decorating, gardening, worrying about money (house sold lots in Bank hopefully), all you have to do is relax and think about the next big adventure destination.

Would someone define the term full timing? Some full timers? I have met need to return to u.k. for m.o.t , tax renewal, insurance etc .
I understood the vehicle has to be kept at the address on the insurance documents . How do full timers get round this? Do they use an address in u.k.
they are not living at . Full timing for me would involve NOT having the ties with U.K. if I choose to.
Maybe I have got things wrong and should be off on the road myself.

Hi Cabra, we have a UK registered Bessacarr motorhome and yes every September we have to return to the UK to get it taxed, MOT etc. we could get everything else done here in Europe. To get round this we could change the registration to France, Italy or anywhere else but then you would be in the same boat with that country. Another thing to bear in mind is your tax domicile. For instance if you spend over six months in France (or most EU countries) you are considered living there, and could be liable to tax, so move on before that happens and remember this is in ANY one year.
The vehicle DOES NOT have to be kept at the address on the insurance, we have a UK CONTACT only address. My insurance people know this and you also have to inform them you are full timing, not doing so will certainly invalidate your insurance. I also have 365 days away insurance.
Full timing defines to me as NOT being attached to any country. I lived for 25 years in the UK (born and bred and proud of it). for the last 25 years we lived in Guernsey, C.I. we retired in 2004 and sold the house there. Now we have no ties with Guernsey, no ties with UK we are in France presently eventually on route to Italy (we think). So no ties with France. In other words no ties with with any one. Does this help?

Thanks for your prompt reply. It is a bit more clearer now and as I thought a connection to uk is still necessary as regards m.o.t etc hence the need for u.k. contact point.
If only e.u. could get their act together and recognise an m.o.t etc regardless where it is carried out .
Thanks again

I find myself in the same situation as Rob. My wife of 36 years of happy marriage died on the 11th of November, after 4 years fighting cancer. I gave up work and so we could spend more time together touring Europe in the caravan and I quickly noticed that she was much more relaxed when we were out in the van. So I sold the house and rented it back, to free up our assets and though we could only spend a maximum of 3 weeks at a time away because of the need to return for treatment, we had some great times. World Cup in Germany last year being one of many. I have now bought a Motorhome and am going full time. I am lucky in that our son lives in Germany and that will be my base, though I will have to return to the UK for the MOT and to visit my wife's grave on her Birthday and our Anniversary. I don't know what to expect and if it will be a lonely experience on my own, but I am giving it a go. I have learned that whatever plans you may make for your future can be easily be taken away and if you really want to do something you should do it now. Any advice from fulltimers especially those of you who are on your own would be greatly appreciated.
Pete
