Hi all, am in the market for a 3 - 5 yo coachbuilt >4 berth motorhome, preferably with a full size oven and a communal lounge (not the diner type a la CI Carioca) that will be able to tow a kitcar on a trailer. Budget is around £25k.
Whether I find a Motorhome with a towbar fitted or not, how do I validate that it can tow a trailer and a 540kg car (unless, by default, all Motorhomes can tow)?
Any other suggestions re. what to look for welcome, but the towing one is the main criteria (at the moment).
Thanks in advance.

I also found this on a web site :-
check the wheelbase of the vehicle (centre of front axle to centre of rear axle) and then measure the overhang (the distance from the centre of the rear axle to the extreme back). The overhang can go up to 60% of the wheelbase and the towbar needs to fit within this limit.

Look at the for sale section, where my Laika is up for sale. Been used to tow enclosed trailer, with either m/cycle or micro car inside. Well capable & inside weight limits.

Iveco 35c's have very good towing limits and a give a very stable tow despite the long rear overhangs .... Twin rear wheel Fords and Mercs are ok too ... Rear drive is a real benefit as are twin rear wheels ... NB Fiats on standard chassis can often tow more than Alco which are IMO more stable!
Check the data plate under the bonnet of any van you are interested in
Towing Limit is Gross Train Weight (the second line) Minus Gross Vehical Weight (firstline) .....
Iveco 35c18
GVW 4000Kgs (upgrade from 3500Kgs)
GTW 7000Kgs (though I have seen one plated 6000Kgs)
At least thats what I have been told by Lowdhams and is confirmed by Iveco UK here :

My old Iveco (2001) was:
Iveco 35c130
GVW 4200Kgs (from the factory)
GTW 7000Kg
Before that I had a Renault Master 140
GVW 3500Kgs
GTW 5000Kgs
Towed very well too
then it was a Fiat Ducato 2.8
GVW 3850
GTW 5000 (I think but it was too unstable for me to try towing much)
Hope that some help
ALSO make sure that the towbar is made up by someone who knows what they are doing ...... the one of my last van was not up to the job and was done by a "specialist" ..... Lowdams thought I was mad ordering a genuine Laika tow bar for £1000 + Fitting but its only £250/500 more than a made up one and is approved by Laika AND Iveco ...
