I have an Omnistor Freedom 3 awning fitted to my Fourwinds Siesta R/V. From day one there have been problems with it. It has never closed properly. The first motor 'burnt out' and now with a new motor the problem remains. There are now three albeit tiny holes in the cover, one on each side and one in the middle.

I have told the dealer that the problem is still there despite having a new motor fitted. Even when hand winding it, the awning hasn't closed properly. Meanwhile a friend who is a very practical guy, (an electrician by trade), has sussed out the problem. Instead of winding UNDER the roller the cover is winding OVER it thus causing additional strain on the cover and preventing the complete folding of the awning into the box.

I have phoned the dealer and told him of the problem. He had a similar model R/V available in the yard with the same awning as mine. He went to inspect it to find on that one that the awning went UNDER the roller unlike mine. I am now asking for the awning to be replaced in view of the holes that are present in the cover. Am I being unreasonable? The R/V is now 1 year and 8 months old (I had it from new) and this problem occurred within only a few months of me taking delivery of it.

Has anyone else had this problem?

In view of the fact that it's been incorrectly rolled since new and is damaged due to this, you are not being unreasonable in asking for a new awning cover to be fitted free of charge.

Has the dealer responded to your request ?
