Hi All

Just to let you all know that I'm posting this from Germany using my mobile phone via T-mobile - and it still seems to only be costing the normal £1 a day, same as in the UK. The speed is somewhat variable but ATM it seems just as quick as the GPRS is at home. Useful if anyone is considering a trip over here.

Hi Ken

Amazing .. I was lead to believe the cost of Tmobile data roaming would cost the proverbial arm and a leg Shocked .. this is good news indeed, did you try in France ?

Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim

That's what I thought too. Rolling Eyes

I only tried it because I was too idle to walk into the village and use the internet cafe. I was amazed when I found that I was only being charged the same as in the UK. I suppose it's only working because I'm connected to T-mobile Germany.

Didn't try in France or Belgium, will do so on the way home if I can pick up T-mobile as the local connection.

Interesting that T mobile worked in Germany at the capped rate. I can only assume it was a T mobile german network or an alliance partner.

I used my T mobile pay as you go sim and data card in France and it ate £20 just downloading my emails on two evenings so was definitely not capped. I think it worked out at £7.50 per Mb of data. The networks were SFR and Orange France if I remember correctly and GPRS only.

Not economic at that rate. For next trip I intend to try and get local sims and see what packages the local players do.

This is excellent news. Can't wait to try mine out. Very Happy

Do let us know about France & Belgium - very useful info.

Safe trip.

Dougie.

Hi all,

I never tried it when in Germany due to the stories of around £7.00 per Mb.
I did speak to a chap in the T Mobile shop in Dusseldorf, who did tell me that internet accaess on a contract was very cheap, however, PAYG was very expensive.

I wish now that I had given the datacard a go.

Jock.

Well, I'm back on again so still working. Cool

I keep checking my balance here and it's doing exactly the same as it does in the UK, deducts £1 a day every day I connect.

As an earlier poster pointed out, it's doubtless due to the fact that the network provider here is T-mobile Germany. When roaming I assume that the provider used is a preferred partner and of course if T-mobile will use their sister company if a network is available. Since being in Germanymy phone has been almost exclusively on the T-mobile network whereas Jens has been on O2 (who is her provider in the UK). When we get back in France I'll check the providers there (anyone know if T-mobile have a French subsidiary?).

The access speed here varies enormously, ATM it's no different to the UK but an hour ago I was waiting 10 minutes for a page to load, must depend on the network traffic I presume.

Anyway, it's nice to do a bit of browsing on a sunny Sunday afternoon from the banks of the Rhine, wish you were all here. Wink
