Hi we are looking into hiring a motorhome prior to buying one and wondered if anyone hires privately as the Hire companies are extremely expensive. looking to book for a week at Half term october this year. Non smoking professional married couple, wanting to do more of the UK.
Please reply with any advice or info about where we might look.
many thanks
Dee

The thing is Motor home are expensive mine is over 70,000k, insurance for hire is also very expensive.
So I think you'll find that most won't be to keen to hire, loan, their pride and joy, would you?
Why don't you consider hiring a MH in the low season for a long week end,
surely its a small amount to pay to find out whether this is the hobby for you

I've just got a quote for a hire. Ten days - £1260 (including European Insurance and Unlimited mileage). I wouldn't mind too much except it is a 3pm pick up of the vehicle - Day 1, and a B4 11 am drop off - Day 10. It seems a little like paying for two of the days, with very little opportunity for use.
I'm still tempted though, as it is very close to what I want to buy, and I will be able to have a good test run in it. The £1260 might turn out to be a worthwhile investment to try and get the right vehicle first time.

Don't hold your breathe on getting the right one first time. You really need to go round the shows and show rooms looking at different makes and models. You need to find just the right configuration at the right price and test drive several to get the different feel of them. However, I do wish you luck.

Good points, thanks. I have decided on a prefered layout, so hopefully it will work out. I was going to the NEC, but unfortunately this classes with school holidays. I will be in Germany this week end, so I am hoping to see a few at the dealerships. Any recommendations around Bremen?

Thanks for advice and info. We've been to quite a few shows and suppliers and have pretty much settled on the size, style etc of the Mhome we will get. We just have itchy feet to get out and about before we go the whole hog and buy it. I have recieved a range of quotes from £400 for a week to £1500. can't believe there is so much price range. There also seem to be lots of people who are prepared to hire out their MHome privately rather than have it sitting on their drive...so we will get there.

Before we were in a position to buy we hired for two summers . The firm from which we hired ( Marquis, Hampshire) would have let us have a substantial discount had we gone on to buy from them. It would have covered the cost of hiring.
I don't think Marquis hire any longer but there must be other firms who would do the same deal ?
