Can anyone advise please on this particular model's automatic gearstick?

I have just been sent some photo's of a 2002 Autosleeper Topaz Automatic which is for sale and which I am very interested in. I have found it very hard to locate any with auto so up to now have only been able to view manual models.

On seeing the internal photo's I was a bit disappointed to note a large floor based gearstick located between the seats as I had sort of assumed it would either be on dash or steering wheel - I accept I am ignorant about this Rolling Eyes

As Autosleeper's website only displays the latest models layout and with no actual pictures of the front seat area at all - can anyone tell me if the auto gearstick on this vehicle is still used in later models or if it is an older design.

I imagine walking through from front to back of vehicle will be a bit tricky with the gearstick and handbrake in between the seats.

Thanks for any info.

Maura

Hi! Sadly, I'm sure that they are all floor mounted except for the latest models, which are dash mounted. Google VW Campersales and talk to them, they will put you straight and maybe able to source an auto for you. H

Hi, I have a VW T4 based RV which is automatic. In all honesty the shifter and the handbrake do not get in the way at all, even with the big captains chairs I have.... I think you will be fine with it...

My much loved VW Rialta is for sale, if you need an automatic van with the best layout possible in its size take a look at the classifieds..

Hi Edgie

Thanks for reply and what great photo's! I love the interior of your VW, very plush.

We are viewing the Topaz later today and hopefully the gear stick wont put us off as these little vans are hard to find with auto transmission, and as we are often told you always have to make a compromise somewhere.

We did hear of a 2006 model a few weeks back but it sold before we could get to view it. They are sought after but not many made with auto as it pushes the price up to almost £40k new.

Homerdog....thanks also for your reply. Will see how the viewing goes today and then if no good will give your contact a call to see when the dash mounted gear stick was introduced.

Cheers guys

Maura
