Been looking on fleabay for one of these babies and they have some real cheap looking ones - only 60cm tho - going for about £70 odd inc delivery - but a few weeks ago there were a few more sturdy looking tripods that looked the business.

Anyone recommend a decent place to get one of these, on t'internet or otherwise? Not wanting to spend loads - the ones that were on fleabay earlier (why I didn't buy, I know not) were about £80 inc delivery.

Thanks!

Hi Stormywhether,I posted on the satellite? forum section here about e-bay purchase of 60cm.dish and tripod(maxview) from cheshire digital solutions. It is a really good kit, big enough and WORKS in Scotland.I know you might need a bigger dish for Spain etc. but you should get freeview type channels on the southern beam even with a 60cm.dish,hope this helps,Gordon

Yes, I seemed to be a little bit lucky and got it for £36+£14 P/P. I`ve been watching further purchases of this item and the kit has been as much as £70 + P/P so it really depends on how your bidding goes.It also comes with 15 metre of cable with connections,Gordon

Nice one Gordy, although I must admit since we're about to be spending A LOT more time over on the continent I'm tempted to go for a much larger dish - 88cm to be precise.

Have seen one for about £60 (dish & LNB only) at brynmar but will keep on checking fleabay in case I get lucky.

Thanks for the tips!

Stormy

thy this Ebay site

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=297 84&item=5727146066&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

There are only 15 kits left (tripod and dish) at £15 each plus carriage. End of season line.

I have just bid and won the entire kit, receiver, card, tripod and dish suitable for use in Portugal for £95 inclusive of carriage.

You could try www.satcure.co.uk who have quite extensive stocks of most things to do with satellite reception also they have sections specifically for camping. You can also subscribe for a free newsletter which gives lots of information and latest news on the subject especially with regard to the Free To View cards and the like. I paid about £40 for my Maxview tripod, it's quite sturdy and has been used in gales and stormy weather with the 80cm dish on, no problems at all. The 80cm dish I bought from Lidls along with their version of the digibox, but I bought it just for the dish and 25m of cable, very good value.

The link directs to a mini-dish(43cm) system which is more suitable for southern England.Another possibility for a smaller dish size is on e-bay you can buy a signal finder meter(£12.99) and receive a free in-line amplifier. The meter works ok and means you can adjust outside on your own. I couldn`t get confirmation that the amp meant that you could get away with a smaller dish abroad.I intend to try it out next summer but at the moment am happy with the 60cm dish(it actually measures at 66cm eliptical) for use in the UK,Gordon

I've used the minidish as far south as the bottom of Italy, and in good weather it is ok in Sicily, but if there is a lot of cloud or rain about then the 80cm is a lot better.

phil - have you got an 80cm dish?

I'm looking at an 88cm with LNB, tripod, signal finder and cabling for £134 at the moment, will ponder over the weekend!
