Has anyone who uses bottled still mineral water while away to make tea/coffee with, had any problems.
I have, I kept getting a sore throat after being away, longer time away, the worse my sore throat.
Last two times out, used the sites tap water, and have had no problems.
Is there something I should know about using mineral water for tea/coffee making?
There was residue left in the kettle, almost like tiny bit’s of metal (that’s the only way I know of describing it), this appeared on both electric (plastic) and (metal) gas kettles, both are fairly new, and were extensively cleaned before use.
I have no problem with using tap water.
It’s just I buy this kind of water in bulk, and cheaper than normal, no problem drinking the water, except when boiled.

Might well be Homer that your body has become acclimatised to all the chemicals added to tap water. You might well develop a dependence similar to nicotine alcohol or chocolate?
Then when you put yourself on relatively clean water your body craves the cocktail that you usually get from the tap.
Thats all very deep for me.

Interesting point, the only thing is, I drink about 6 or 7 bottles (500ml each) a day, and have done so for two years, with no side affects, only tap water I have at home is in tea/coffee.
So it seems to effect me only when boiled.

I mentioned I buy in bulk, all the same brand; we are talking 100's of bottles at a time, always the same.
I see your point about differing brands though.
Perhaps it's just this particular brand of water that reacts in this manner when boiled, leaving a residue inside the kettle, not sure.
I know I've identified the water as my problem, simply by switching to tap water whist away, in the last year I have constantly been plagued by this problem, never considering the water until that was all that was left.
As I mentioned earlier, I drink about 6 or 7 bottles a day of this water, and no reaction at all, untill I boiled it, very strange.

Hi Homer
It might be worth a trip over to Buxton
There is a well where you can fill up with fresh water (runs out of a tap)
and it's free I take a 25 ltr water container when I go
just make sure your container is clean!!!!
You can't get fresher water tastes good too I have never had any problems as long as you are drinking it daily and not storing it.

Thanks for the info, as I said earlier, I have no problem using tap water to make tea/coffee, so I’m happy to do just that, and carry on drinking the mineral water out of the bottle.
I thought I’d highlight this problem in case somebody else was having similar experiences.
Thanks again for your help and advice, much appreciated, interesting point about the differences between mineral waters.

Hi AutoK,
Thanks for the advice; next time I’m passing Buxton I’ll have to try that.

Hi, recently we stayed on a campsite that was newly opened and we were told that the site water was not fit for drinking even if boiled and they advised us to use mineral water for the duration of our stay. This was no problem as we usually have a good supply on board, Anyway, after a few days of using it for tea and coffe we noticed that the kettle element was getting very furred up. When you think about it I suppose it's to be expected, so from then on we filtered the water through a Brita and the problem went away. Perhaps you could try filtering the water before boiling it and see if it cures your problem.
Phil.
