Hi Kijana,
Its a webasto Air Top 2000S. I think they were originally designed to heat truck cabs so they did not need to idle their engines. They make specific Motorhome heaters now. If you wanted you could put in a separate diesel tank and run it off red farm diesel (legally) at 1/3 the cost per litre.

Great, thanks for that, Tribute. I'll look them up.

Next bit of research is for a diesel cooker. Primus (I think) do a petrol cooker that is apparently excellent, & doesn't smell. If there's an equivalent diesel version, it would mean engine, heating, & cooking would all be from a single fuel, which would be a good way to minimize clutter.

No experience of diesel cookers myself, here is a quote from the Silk Route club site on diesel cookers:

When designing my campervan I was tempted to install a diesel hob. On paper these are very attractive, primarily because if you use diesel heating as well then you do not need to carry any gas. In practice they seem to be a disaster! So far I have not met anyone with a diesel hob who would recommend it. They are expensive, noisy, slow to start, slow to heat and unreliable. They may not work at all above 1500 metres.

Thanks, Jim. Mr Silk Route Stewart is very well qualified in serious motorhoming! So ok, maybe I won't look any further for diesel cookers.

That is a fascinating website. Now I'm going to have to look into how much Unimogs cost. . .

Fun design project though. Wonder if I could be the first to run a true off roader Mog with a slideout?

I am glad to see that no one had recommended radiant heaters and non flued gas heaters as both of these can be lethal.

Radiant heaters in small rooms can heat up surrounding materials to very high temperatures and fires are a definite possibility.

Non flued gas heater produce large quantities of carbon dioxide and water vapour and may even produce carbon monoxide if burner is slightly defective.

Carbon dioxide is not poisonous but can cause death by asphyxiation.

Carbon monoxide has no smell but is very poisonous.
