Well, it's that time of year again!
Time for the anual scrap to find the best heater for this winter.
We get a new heater on an anual basis - don't really like hammering them for more than one season).
We always use a 2kw fan heater which for the past 4 years has been enough to keep a 34ft single slide coach warm enough and only supplement it with a 500watt skirting board heatyer in the bedroom when it gets to be constant minus temperatures.

We've always used this type..........

but I'm wondering if the following is any better..........

Comments please.

Hi Paul

Convector heaters are good but we like the oil filled radiators, lovely warmth and lovely warm towels in the morning.

There was a thread on this subject some time ago and the point was made then that it was safer to use a heater with less moving parts if you intended to leave it running unattended. The heater thus favoured was the oil filled type.
However I must confess I still use a fan heater with a thermostat which has a frost setting on it to keep out the damp in winter when the motorhome is not in use. It must also have two heat settings, 1Kw and 2Kw so when on site I can adjust it to suit the delivery capabilities of the supply.

I rarely use the van heater on electric because the thermostat is such rubbish or rather it is located in such a ridiculous place it is exceedingly insensitive to temperature changes and fails miserable to do the job of keeping me warm.

The only thing about these thing Stew, is that I'm not certain they would have enough circulation/radiation for a large coach?
I notice you said radiators in the plural?
You're running more than 1?
Whats the make and power consumption?

Hi Paul

We have a big one that has two switches, one for 1KW and the other takes to either 1.5 or 2.

We then have a much smaller one that you are right is not that good. The big one is probably 2 foot tall.

To be fair we also have a fan heater as well. When we get up we switch the excellent blow air heating on, the big radiator AND the fan heater Laughing Laughing . We are not fulltimers to be uncomfortable Laughing Laughing We get the van like a sauna, Shona is great with the lemon towels Laughing

The radiators keep a good background heat.

Yep. ffiona's been into Argos today. Needless to say, the one I wanted was out of stock!!!! Evil or Very Mad
So, she's bought a cheapo standard fan heater, just so as we've got something other than the onboard blast furnace for the weekend, and she's ordered a DiLonghi upright radiator with "turbofan". Never used this type before in 8 years fulltiming and don't know if they're any good? (better be at £39!). We've always had the standard type of fan heater, so I thought I'd give one a crack.
It's 2kw, so OK for the trips and it's got quite a surface area so we'll see how it goes.
The other option (again a DiLonghi) was sugested by ScotJimLand elsewhere and is available from Curries. That looks a nice piece of kit. He bought one this morning and has reported that it's ultaquiet and very warm, so, if I'm not happy with what i get, I'll get one of those.

Hi

Am I correct in assuming that the Rv's built in heating system is gas only?

I recall speaking to Truma about this, and apparently Hymer tend to fit it in the wrong place, and we were going to buy a new bit and fit it where it was supposed to have been set. Having sold mh - it didn't get done...so hope Rapido are better..... Wonder why Hymer couldn't put it where it should have been...
