Crank Up Handle Keeps falling Out!! Forums

Hi,
We have recently had a crank up satelite dish fitted (Maxview). We have only been away twice since and each time out trip has been partially ruined by the crank up handle continually falling out and crashing to the floor (and my head once or twice!) It has got to the stage now where as soon as we have a signal we take the handle out before it falls out. It dosn't stay put for more than an hour so you can imagine how annoying it is!! I have paid a lot of money for it so surely the handle should stay put. Anybody else have the same problem or does anyone know of a solution??

This problem has been reported by several people, the problem has been identified as being the square tube being cut to the wrong length, either too long or too short..
Maxview AFAIK will replace the tube FOC but if it were fitted by a dealer I would return to them for repair.

Thought it might be. It looks like the metal tube is maybe too long so hopefully the fitter can cut a bit off it. He is saying he did it to the exact maxview length. Do you know what that is and i can measure it to see?

Hi its either because the square channel is to long or your not pushing the handle up firmly enough. Make sure the square channel does not protrude below the lip, use a straight piece of wood to check this, if it does its too long.

If its not then it maybe that you need to push the handle up more firmly, you should hear an audible click when it goes home, and their shouldn't be a gap between it and the piece you turn the sat around with.

What does he mean by the exact maxview length.It is obviously controlled by the thickness of the roof. I had this problem and we have remedied it by cutting the tub down a little and making sure the square tube remains square. The someone climbed ontothe roof and pushed down whilst below the tube and handle set up was pushed into place

Just goes to show my fitter really is clueless. I really regret trusting him as he told me he knew what he was doing and it has turned out he didn't. I just hope he has waterproofed it properly. He is telling me it's maxview's problem as he has done everything correct. Obviously not! The maxview rep called me and was very helpful so fingers crossed he will sort it out for me. I didn't know each van was different and i imagine either did he so that to me sounds like a solution Smile

Every van is different because some roofs are thicker than others. It could still be that the fitter has got it right. I can't remember exactly but the fitting instructions told you to measure the thickness and add 1mm or something like that.

Just a thought on this one. You say it falls out completely ie on the floor.
I fitted mine so I know that on the square tube there should be a retaining washer, if that is missing there is nothing to hold the tube / handle in.
