Hi,
Anyone got any tips for setting up crank up dish? When we were in the lakes it was elevation about 25, but in North wales it's 30. On the little maxview map i got with the dish it dosnt correspond. I wondered if there was a chart somewhere that had the area and then told you exactly where to point your dish and at what elevation?

Hi Cole

I have never used the map but prefer to do the following. Setting the elevation at approx 25 I then rotate it within the astra2 yellow band. If I do not get a lock on I take not where the strongest signal is. Then at that point I alter the elevation. This technique has always worked for us

hi cole,

I think you will find the maxview chart useful as a guide only, don't take it as gospel because it is assuming your crank up dish is sitting on top of a perfectly horizontal m/home roof.Even with levelling blocks you will have to be slightly fortunate to achieve this, and it is likely the elevation of the dish as shown on the dial will be thrown out by the position of the vehicle.

I use a maxview signal finder in conjunction with the signal stength and quality on screen menu. With a bit of practice and with a clear view of the sky a good picture can be achieved in 2-3 minutes, although several sweeps may be necessary altering the elevation a couple of degrees each time to compensate for the m/home being on a tilt.

Hi Cole

These elevation angles are dependent on your van being on level ground. Obviously if you aren't level then you need to take that into account. A reading of 30 deg. in North Wales is obviously incorrect so you were either on a slope with the M/H or it's possible that the LNB arm on the dish had not dropped fully into its operating position, thus affecting the angular setting. Next time ensure your van is perfectly level and that the LNB arm is fully deployed. The elevation details on the Maxview documents will then be quite accurate enough to set the dish easily. As Stew says, 25 deg. will find some sort of signal in most of the UK, once the signal has been found by rotating the dish at 25 deg, lock the rotation and fine tune with the elevation control for signal quality.

Hi

Yes that will have a large effect. I remember being at Dover with other MHFers and I think it was 656 who was having problems. We found his correct elevation to be 19 degrees rather than 25 because of the drop at the side of the road

Cant believe i never thought of the van being on a slope affecting the elevation!! It makes perfect sense now. Thaaks for your help and is it a waste of money to buy a signal finder?

Sky+ ... to be honest once we have sorted north out its quite easy to find signal. Now i know about the van being on a slope etc that will help.

I have the pace digibox and there is a delay of around 5-6 seconds on this box between adjusting the dish and registering on the set up menu,so I can easily move past a strong signal.

The maxview satfinder has a visual(streaming led's) and audible signal warning when it detects a satellite and more importantly works in real time with no delay,so for me it is worth every penny and makes locking on to astra 2 quicker.
