We've got 4 children and have been trying to find an appropriate vehicle within a 10-15K budget, but found that to get a lot you had to buy a very old vehicle. We ended up buying a Mazda Bongo plus awning and rear drop-on box. Van brilliant and ended up doing a 4000 mile european trip - but never again under such conditions. Started looking again, and finally took the plunge at Earls Court - still scared about whether weve done the right thing - Elnagh Clipper 20 6 berth with bunks - quite basic, but no point having too much fancy stuff with kids. 23K with Sat Nav and Awning.
More than we wanted to pay, but reckoned that with the discount, putting it on HP etc we are not forking out on what could be a risky used purchase. No mots etc for 3 years, and as its not being delivered till April 05 we dont have to worry about looking after an older van over winter, and we've still got the bongo to get about in until then.
Yours, still dazed and confused.

Welcome to Motorhome Facts, think you did the right thing, trying out, decided the life was for you and then swopping, cos by that time you knew exactly what you wanted after such a decent trip

You did everything right in my view.
If asked for advice on the best way of getting into motorhoming I always believe that the 'used' route is best on three counts.
1. You get to know whether you like the lifestyle.
2. You get experience of a particular layout in the vehicle and can form an opinion of what is likely to be the best layout for you.
3. If motorhoming isn't for you or your family you can sell up without a huge loss which is often the case if you buy new to start with.
I wish you and your family many years of enjoyment in your new mh when it finally arrives.
Many thanks. As I said, I'm still a bit scared of making such a commitment, but we've always camped one way or another, and we really believe its the answer ( ? Morocco next year) . What I would say though, is the Mazda Bongo is a brilliant vehicle for 2 people (3-4 at a push), and would heartily recommend it ( have had old VWs in the past) - but not for such a large family!
