I am new to posting on the above directory- and have now made my first search of the the sites therein. Having mapped a route to get us down to Perpignan I have realised that there are many departments within each region. My post for example was of Chanac. I realise it is in the Auvergne region but the Lozere department no.48 - which I omitted from my entry. My point is that if campsites and aires could have this information included it would make it easier to decide whether to consider looking at the details. I hope I am not out of order in my observations as I appreciate it cannot be an easy task putting all this information on the site. I would be interested in anyones (especially those up top) for their comments. I do use several other information packs/websites and club books to seek out sites. But of course ones posted by members are very valuable as they are from the 'horses mouth' so to speak (no offence or pun intended!!) I have several more to add which I think will be valuable additions and would detail the region and department of each.

Hi ambegayo

I've moved this thread to the "New Features Requests" forum. Hopefully being in this forum, Nuke will pick up your post and give some consideration to your suggestion.

BTW: you can edit your entry to include additional information by going to the entry and clicking on the "edit" icon (that's the one that looks like a pencil and paper).

I've always entered the Dept Number in my French entries just after the campsite/aire name for this very reason.

If you do a search using 'Dept' in the 'Campsite Name' field on the search page it will throw up all my entries and those of others that have taken the time to enter this info.
To further refine the search put in for example 'Dept 62' for a list of my entries for the Calais region.

Obviously for this to work properly everyones entries will need to be ammended and it would need to be a mandatory requirement when submitting further entries. That is one of the disadvantages of changing or adding search options in a large database but in this instance at least I wouldn't have to do any extra ammending Rolling Eyes Laughing

Hi,

if all folks entered the correct postal code with their French sites, then this would not be any problem. Because the first two digits of the postal code represent the departement number.

So, just enter 62* in the postal code field if you want to find sites in Dept 62.

Best Regards,
Gerhard

That's a fair point Gerhard, only problem here is that as far as I can see there is no search field for postcodes and also, once again it will only work properly if everyone takes the time to fill this entry in.

Another option, although not quite as area specific as the dept number or postcode is to select a particular French region from the virtual map at the top of the search page. For example again, if you select 'nord pas de calais' then at least you will find all entries from dept's 59 & 62. Trouble with that is some other regions have up to 6 Depts within their area.
Perhaps it would help if the country region entry box were a mandatory entry field?

In fact, thinking about it more, IMO there should be a lot more mandatory entry fields than there are at the moment.

the problem with more mandatory fields is it impacts on the number of people who will enter the info rather than just stopping half way or not even bother doing it

I can only comment, having brought this topic up in the first place, that if members are taking the time to enter their camps and aires visited - to help other members then surely entering the department and region shouldn't be too much hassle. Even if its in the information box. By the way I didn't know about the first two letters, so thanks for that. Just hope we can take this further. Is there a way to reach a page (if I've trolled through 5 pages then stop and go back next day is there a way I can start at page 6?

Hi its hard enough getting people to input sites as it is, adding further mandatory fields imho will only make it worse.

Oops, you are right... Embarassed

Nuke,

I don't think we should make the postcode field mandatory, but can we add a Search field for the postal code?

Best Regards,
Gerhard
