Right- the question needs to be asked. I am reasonably au fait with the problems suffered by members.- as it stands there seem to be four or five "recalls" by Fiat PLUS the scuttlegate issue.
We'd like to buy a new Motorhome. No rush though. The vehicle we'd like is on a Fiat (no choice there). But how would we know when the time has arrived that ALL the problems have been solved, and that the Fiats coming off the factory floor no longer suffer from thiis that and the other?
Will Fiat's say " right- all those with chassis numbers from........onwards are ok?? (pigs flying again??)
Or would an inspection of the engine be enough eg is the "scuttle" back to a one -piece design- No point in being reassured by an engine cover is there- symptom but not cause and all that.
So- when would we know?....and the "We" would include any other MHF-ers who might be considering a new vehicle.
Or do I just sit back and do nowt and post the question again in another six months or so?

In addition to Scuttlegate, my van has had four recalls and another two need attention. Who is to say that when these are clear, a load more won't appear?
If you like the MultiJet, buy one.
A recall can be carried out - and it is quite possible your van would not need any work. A recall is a check - and then work carried out if necessary.

I would noy buy any of the triplets (Fiat/Peugeot/ not so much Citroen) until they
a. Go back to their original design for a one piece scuttle, so that the flippin things do not leak.
b. For me this is the most important improve their lousy, crap, abysmal, dire, dreadful, appalling, disgusting, mince customer service!!!!! By the way that is me being kind
Like with any new model Fiat have had their problems when the vehicles hit the market and the open road.
I don't think they have handled it at all well, but with the modern age of instant litigation, I would imagine they have kept close lipped to avoid any potential comebacks.
Sad but true, Health and Safety, Political Correctness etc have not done anything to improve our way of life nowadays. Too many quangos and not enough commonsense unfortunately.
Any way to the point, enough rambling on.
The new chassis should have been out long enough for the bugs to have been found, so just make sure you are buying a late chassis.
In the case of Swift who seem to be the only manufacturer to take things seriously, MH's delivered after November should be reasonably bug free chassis wise.
Order from an independent dealer where you can speak to the Service Manager and have a look round their workshop facilities at the same time.
Regards.

The Sevel van (Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen) is still the best drivers base vehicle. Yes it has had issues, but so have all of the other base vehicles and to the same or higher proportions. The fact is that the Mercedes has had more recalls than the Sevel.
The information is that 2008 chassis have been sorted and without doubt the earlier vehicles will be corrected. When the time comes for you to change, then change. The most important consideration should be the habitation layout as this is the factor that will decide your satisfaction and your long term enjoyment.

Errr had bad day with Purilegeot again!! But my champion you know who you are is on the case many many thanks.
I actually agree with Gerryd the handling has been poor to say the least but the vans are better than previous incarnations despite their "teething troubles".
I feel strongly now though that you really can judge a company by the way they handle problems and how that impacts on their customers. Suffice to say the customer service falls short of any reasonable persons expectations and may well be a factor in your deliberations. I would love to say just go for it but have reservations might be better to wait a wee bitty longer!!
