I cannot understand why fulltimers don't go for something a little more substantial, a good tripod and good anchors, after all you cannot be moving on every day????
Even though I am not a fulltimer I prefer a tripod to a dish on the roof. Its upgradeable, cost effective, don't have to worry how I park and easy to tie down in strong winds. Ok so it might be a little more fiddly to set up and it might be raining but I certainly am not going to pay a lot for anything which offers no improvement in picture quality. In fact it sounds as though reception of roof mounted dishes can be worse in a puff of wind.

Before I got the crankup I had a dish on a tripod. For someone like me it was useless. I want to arrive and be set up within minutes and the crank up does exactly that. I have put it up in the supermarket car park whilst Shona does the shopping. I actually found the dish on the tripod, albeit it was a big dish also moved in the wind.
I honestly think, for us anyway the cranky is the answer for 99% of the time and in the wind we fall back on an aeriel.
