Title says it all, we've had a bit of wind today, not that bad but I've had to lower the crank-up, a gust of wind pulled it out of alignment, I don't think the locking mechanism that prevents it from rotating is up to the job..

Hi Scotjimland,
I had this problem when the wind was "gusty" and I overcame it by placing a large washer under the screw which holds the cam down and the sticking a piece of thin card to the end of the arm to stop it overriding the top edge of the cam. Sorry if this is not a very good description but if you remove the locking/winding mechanism from above you will see what I mean. I also contacted Maxview to say that I thought the cam could be modified and all I got was another housing with cam and arms sent by post F.O.C

Thanks for your comments, IMO the plastic ratchet that prevents it from rotating is not fit for purpose, I intend to complain to Maxview.
Wind speed today for our area (BBC Weather) is 22mph SW
Hi Jim,
I have discussed this problem with the supplier of my crank up and he told me that they have had some complaints about the dish moving in moderate winds.
They in turn contacted maxview and I think they are working on a fix for it.So maxview are aware that there is an issue.Whether they will come up with a retrospective solution is anyones guess.
This is Snelly's specialist subject and hopefully he'll be along soon to update us.

I think most sat dishes are static, bolted to the side of a house and protected from the wind by that house. The crank up works perfectly for most of the time but it is designed to be mobile/moveable and is perched high on top of motorhome roof.
Ours does not move in the wind because it is fitted very tightly but I do take it down in high winds.
I personally would prefer the mechanism in the cranky to fail before the van roof is damaged.
We keep a small portable with an indoor ariel for such times
Not sure what you mean, ' being fitted very tightly' ?
I heard the plastic locking pall jumping on the plastic ratchet .. this is poor design, the dish is advertised as being able to withstand winds up to 65 mph ... I don't think so

When we first fitted it there was some movement and yes it would move on the rachet. We refitted it cutting the spindle shorter. It is now very tight, maybe too tight but there is no movement
