There are servere queuing traffic because of roadworks around the M1/M18 junction of the M1. Our local radio reports every morning that traffic is queuing along the M18 southbound for these roadworks and we are about 100miles away!! Spent over 2hours one Friday last month in a truck queuing from Tibshelf services northbound M1 to M18 junction. Although doing the same journey very late on the Saturday night there was only half a mile queue but from Tibshelf services to M18 which is 17miles it took us 15mins.

Last week it was a lot better. I use the M1 north from Mansfield to Barnsley, usually a couple of times week, and the last 2 journeys I have gone through without having to que, just slow down. It looks as if most of the work that was causing the delays has now been completed.

Mind you, this was at about 09:15, so most of the peak traffic had gone by then

We came through there at 5ish on Saturday afternoon with little problem, but the northbound queues on Friday afternoon as we headed south were grim.

I can't understand why motorways can't be altered without causing terrible tail backs. Surely they can do all the work necessary and just cause congestion for the few days it takes to connect the old and new, or is that too simple.

They're causing the same sort of problems on the A1M near Wetherby as they extend the motorway southwards. They've robbed the A1M of a lane and it's only been open a year or so. If they knew they were going to extend then surely they should've designed the first motorway section so it could be done without causing a problem. Or is that too joined up for the monkey heeds in the DfT.

Andy
