Hi All,

I have been using an offsite spam catcher provided by force9/plusnet.

There has been a lot of spam coming in lately so I thought I would check and discover that since Midnight on Thursday until this morning (33 hours!) I have received 1001 spam emails!

Thank goodness only a few of these make it through and have to be deleted.

Anyone else receiving a large amount lately?

Chris

Hi

No idea Chris. Gmail is very good at stopping them and I don't check. My virus checker though has stopped over a million attacks over the past few weeks. Its scary out there if you have not got the right armour Very Happy Very Happy

It will only get worse I believe. Rolling Eyes

Chris, set up a 'black hole', you'll get rid of most of that junk.

Details on Plusnet.

Just the opposite with me.

I'm with BTYahoo and up to about 2 weeks ago received more than 100 spam emails a day.
Coming back from a 4 or 5 week stay in France was a bit of a nightmare.

Although some were filtered out by the ISP I still got this large number arriving in my Bulk (Junk) box which I had to manually delete after checking for the odd one or two 'good' emails..

I suddenly noticed about 2 weeks ago that the numbers had considerably reduced. I used to delets 2 or 3 times a day but in order to count I changed to once a day and now once every 2 days.
The numbers have come down to between 25 and 30 every 2 days

A very significant reduction.

Did you know that 90 billion spam messages are sent everyday? It's an american billion so only 90 thousand million! We receive 25,000 emails a day of which less than 3000 are genuine. That's 84% of email is spam or malicious. Incredible isn't it?

Regards
Doug

Hi Ian,

Most of it is collected by Plusnet in their 'SquirrelMail', but I still have to go in and have a quick look. I suppose it would make sense to ignore it and if any 'good' emails get deleted the sender will always come back!
Maybe!
Customers!
So important of course!

Since posting this morning I have received 63 emails that went straight to the 'spam' folder, 11 that went to the 'junk folder' and on 'SquirrelMail' I have a total of 99 of which 74 made it through ie in the spam and junk folder. No spam arrived in my main mail folder. I have received a total of 6 important or useful emails!

I find in the week I receive many more and a lot ie many 100's can arrive in 'SquirrelMail' in a few minutes!

Thank goodness for 'SquirrelMail', prior to installing this I was spending up to two hours every day! Just a few minutes spread over the day now!

Regards

Chris

At work we get c. 60,000 spam a day Surprised

For home, I divert all my eMail to a googlemail (gmail) account which does all the spam filtering, then I download it from there!

Really hassle free and it means you have an on-line eMail backup (3Gb now I believe) and easy web access when travelling....

It really makes you wonder if spxxmers read our forum or perhaps search the web for words such as spxxm!

Last night, between midnight and 06:30 this morning I received 845 spam emails! Of which a couple of hundred make it into my inbox!

Hopefully when I get back this evening I will not have a lot more again!

Regards

Chris
