I complained yesterday to Plusnet on the unprecedented wave of spam lately both into my normal inbox and the Squirrel mail which I pick up at work on the PC. They said it was usual over the Christmas period.
I will check out Spam Sieve later, but Plusnet said they are trialling another one which I was welcome to join in.

I was getting an increasing amount of spam and getting increasingly fed up with having to spend more and more time deleting it all every day.
I was told that if I changed my email address to incorporate a dot after my name instead of a hyphen it would help. Apparently it is more difficult for the junk mail to get through.
At first I was reluctant to go to all the trouble of changing the address but in the end did so. In fact it took no time to go through the address book and send a message to all in there. I left both addresses running for a few days to make sure I hadn't forgotten anyone, still getting all the spam of course. Then with one click deleted my old address and hoped.
I never thought I would be so pleased to see "no new messages" in my inbox but it actually happened the following day. Fingers crossed, still no problem. If anyone else tries, I would be interested to know how you get on.

Since Dec 30th I have 15,224 spam emails in my plusnet/squirrelmail trash folder and since midnight last night 149 spam emails. It became an urgent daily task to check what was coming in over the period.
I have now got myself into the habit of checking on squirrelmail before opening Outlook. I then find a number of spam's that still come into my inbox on squirrelmail and put them into the spam folder. This way I have far fewer spam emails that actually make it to Outlook and most of them go straight into the spam folder anyway.
I have asked a question of plusnet about squirrelmail. When you send emails to the spam folder does this automatically tell them so they can add that sender to their list? I cannot see the reason for having the box which has SPAM in it, which you click and if you are lucky a few minutes later it will have done whatever it is supposed to have done! There is no explanation of it's purpose!
Squirrelmail seems to fail a lot these days and I have to refresh the page and log on a number of times. This is a typical message:
ERROR:
ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.
Still think it is a great add on and a lot better than any other method I have tried.
Regards
Chris

I take it you only look at one email address when you receive emails? If so, basically all that has happened is the spammers do not know your new email address yet and as such you are not receiving them. Be assured that it will change with time and particularly if you put your email address in any public place.
The big problem I have is I look at any address that will have the remaining suffix after @ so as well as chris@ I also get john@, xdwd@ etc etc. Always a problem for us businesses as we have to publish our email addresses on our web site. So once a spammer has seen sales@, they are laughing so to speak!

Chris
