we don't mind one bit, fire away. Why wait for the kids to go to uni get it now you dont know what life will throw up...we had the same issue and have not regretted returning to MH'ing when the kids were mid teens as it helped us spend time together on shared ground ie outdoor stuff. Yes it was a bit frustrating not to be retired and able to drive off into the sunset for weeks on end but it was invaluable in helping us change our whole lifestyle and focus on what really matters to us. Our kids are sort of at uni level (one still in 6th form) and of course we are now beginning to enjoy a bit of time a deux.
Le Grand Bornand: we have only been in Winter to ski however we are good friends with a family who spent a summer hol there (not in a MH) and raved about the variety of activities on offer, paragliding and allsorts. It's a lovely village, we can personally vouch for that, quite a special area really. The Aravis range is super walking country.
I'd advise checking out the resort websites re activities etc, the camping is very highly rated and looked super, so I would have no doubts about that from what I have heard. There are some super books on the walks try searching on amazon or "the map shop" ( website for shop in upton-on-severn) for titles. Or just go and sort it when you're there.
In summary, we have MH'd and camped one or the other all our lives and yes I'd recommend Le Grand Bornand fopr what you say you like.
Good luck, and get that MH!!!

Thanks, Ruth, for your reply. It's very helpful, and I'll check out all you suggest.
As for the motorhome, my mum & dad in their mid-seventies), have had one, or other, for 20 years and are continually riding off into the sunset for months on end. Usually to France or Spain.
I DO love my camping, but the bug, whilst being slow to catch at first, is starting to take hold with me. My wife hit the right spot earlier this year when she suggested that we could still take the tent, and I could camp out under the stars outside the camper whenever I started pining for the old canvas again. I'd do it too!
If only I had the chance to go away for several weeks at a time, that would swing the decision for me, for sure. Although to be able to get away on weekends would be smashing too. We frequently pop up to Gloucestershire with the tent as soon as May arrives, and sometimes to West Wales too. It would be fantastic to be able to do that all-year-round though. No tent for me in January!

I think you will find GB really Ok in the Summer. You can take your mountain bikes which will fit on the lifts up on the Alpe. The swimming pool is good it is inside and outside with the usual jets etc. Its a great place for walking and pretty central for the obligatory trips ie Lake Annecy (35k) which is well worth the visit. You can drop into Geneva (45k) to the north or run over the Chaitalon pass to Chamonix which is also worth a visit as it has this fantastic lift up to the Aiguille an Mont Blanc.
Yes a great place in the summer and a good campsite.
