Some months ago I bought OXO roast beef granuals and it was the tastiest out the jar gravy I have ever tasted. Mixed with meat juices simply superb. Over the last few weeks I was suprised to see Tescos sold out of them so I contacted OXO and was informed that they have been bought out by the company that owns Bisto and this relatively new product has been dropped as it competes with Bisto granuals which are crap.

I have lodged a complaint of course with Oxo and I will be contacting the Monoplies commission because if OXO and Bisto are one, where is the competition.

Sad indeed.

At the rate things are going it won't be long before we do our shopping at the only store (Tesco) who sell food made by the ony manufacturer - Premier (the owners of Bisto/Oxo, Hovis etc).

Reminds me of long ago motorhoming holidays in Yugoslavia when you went into a shop and bought "Jam" - no brand, no choice, no flavour - take it or leave it. Something to look forward to for the up and coming generation.

The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be.

Hi Pusser

The only gravy granules we use are Golden Fry which we can only find in Iceland stores. We've tried the rest.
I agree that Bisto is not the 'best'.

I have not heard of Golden Fry so I will give them a whirl. I have written to the Monopolies commission so see what happens. Shocked

GAGrass. I was awarded the imprisonment icon for being banned for 1 hour due to an April Fools Joke that was offensive. Thus, the APril Fools was on me. Embarassed

However, since I was released back into the community, my life has changed. I have become a born again agnostic, I do charitable work and I only pee off members once or twice a day now. Cool

I have a friend who's son worked for Goldenfry near Wetherby. You'd be surprised how many companies they make the granules for !!! Shocked

Hi

Well I love oxo cubes, I have grown up with them and there is something very British about them. So this is probably something to do with the PC brigade

Agree, make your own from the meat juice. Add some boullion to taste if prefered and thicken.

Best Beef Gravy.

Seperate the beef dripping from the stock.

Fry 2-3 tablespoons of ordinary flour in the beef fat
Turn off the heat
Slowly stir in the stock along with an oxo* or Maggi* Boullion cube
Bring back to the boil
Add Gravy browning if required/desired*

*I don't use them but if you do Don't add too many cubes or too much browning it will be too salty.

For extra flavour try frying onions in the dripping before the flour.

Link for Gravy

Stop it Trev, you're making my mouth water. Rolling Eyes Quite agree though as we always make our own.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy And if there's any dripping left, spread it on a slice of toast for supper. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

and sod the health warnings for once!

Cheers
