What makes it worse is that Bisto is impregnated with hydrogenated vegetable oil which, so all the health gurus, H&S, M&S, Sainsbury, PC Brigades and my wife, tell me is bad for me. Funny how I lived for 60 odd years without the benefit of hydrogenate vegetable oil and now Bisto can't survive the heat without it. So we make our own, or more precisely the OH does!

Sad indeed.

At the rate things are going it won't be long before we do our shopping at the only store (Tesco) who sell food made by the ony manufacturer - Premier (the owners of Bisto/Oxo, Hovis etc).

Reminds me of long ago motorhoming holidays in Yugoslavia when you went into a shop and bought "Jam" - no brand, no choice, no flavour - take it or leave it. Something to look forward to for the up and coming generation.

Tesco don't stock Daddies sauce, my favourite

Hi
Anyone remember Burdall's gravy salt which was mixed with the meat juices and cornflour. Happy days.

On a vaguely related issue, I wonder how many people realise that Bovril doesn't contain beef extract any more?

My mate contacted them to ask why they had quietly snuck out this vital ingredient, and just got some waffle back about vegetable extracts being equal in flavour without the concerns of using animal products.

It's true, though. I can't tell beef from soya protein (much).

I'm on the case. Letter has been sent on behalf of the Grumpy Old Men Society. Cool
