Merry xmas everyone. I am selling up and hope to go Full timing by the summer although i will still have a small property as a base.My question is, has anyone Full timed in the UK using mainly Caravan Club CL's.I intend to buy a Lunar Roadstar 786 and it is just over 8 metres about 26ft 6ins.I dont want to buy only to be told it is too large and you cant come onto the site. I have contacted the CC but they werent much help they just said there would be a problem with anything over 28ft on Club sites.I have looked at CL details and only a few mentions of twin axle motorhomes not allowed.

Kind Regards Rob.

Hi
May I offer my humble help.
We started fultiming 5 weeks ago, the decision was really quite simple, with house prices falling and the very real threat of recesion, it was the only way to go.
We researched the size and type of motorhome and realised that with me the wife and 2 Alsations we would require something between 28 and 30 feet. We checked with numerous sites bothe CC and CCC also independent and found that those who were actually open would welcome us for as long as we wished to stay.We found grass pitches to be about £7 per night and hard pitches about £10, most owners asked that we be sensible with the electric and so have added a 46KG bottle to our rig, this has given us 4 weeks of use and the supplier in bristol will sell a refill for £37, you must advise that you are using it for "Home Heating" to get the special rate.
We are now in a 1 acre field with hardstanding electric and water, the dogs are allowed the run of the field, and every day seems like a holiday.
When abroad i talked to many fulltimers and the one consistent piece of advice was not to get something to small.
I hope it all goes well for you and am sure lots of folks on this forum will be along with helpfull advice, in the meantime do not hesitate to contact me if you think i can help.
Regards
Terry

You might want to look at privately owned sites for "long holidays " we are on a long holiday in a 36' RV and have no problem , even the locals come out for a chat when we are dog walking.

Regards Rob.

Rob

We were also looking for a suitable vehicle to eventually fulltime in that we could get on to CL type sites. We have gone for an 8 metre van. Having toured UK CL/CS sites for the last 12 years, I can think of a few sites that a 26.5 ft van might be tricky to get on(Pitch lengths for one thing). However, the vast majority that we have used would be fine for a larger van. I think 8 metres is a good compromise Smile

Blimey

It is surprising any work gets done as there are so many of us on long holidays.

I echo the views about privately owned sites. Many will have licences to allow you to pitch indefinitely. Caravan club sites have a 21 night rule and the CCC is a maximum stay of 28 nights.

From my own experience, the private sites will offer good long term rates too.

Russell
