From what I read on their website Onreroam charges seem a lot better than Orange, perhaps thats not difficult! and allow wider usage but can anyone confirm if Oneroam do charge 17p per call set up fee ie is that the minimum call charge??

Happy New Year

Hi Mike

With One Roam, you are not charged to receive in coming calls whilst in Portugal. Calls to the UK are charged at 27p per minute.

It is not such a good deal. For the incoming call you are laughing - so where is the catch?

Ok, I am in the UK and decide to call you on your One Roam. I dial the number and am routed via Estonia costing me - the caller - 47p per minute! So, whilst you have saved funds, it has cost me a small fortune.

Anyway, back to the job in hand, as far as I am aware, from researching this when I went to Italy last year, it is 17p to set up the call, plus the 27p per minute as described.

I think Vodafone passport, is used wisely, is the way forward.

I certainly would not have liked the idea of my friends paying for the priviledge of talking to me.

Russell

Hi Mike

I use OneRoam as my only mobile service provider, and have done since starting fulltiming over a year ago.

As Russell says, it is reasonably cheap for you as the caller to use, but very expensive to be called.

I keep meaning to look out for a better package, but for me the big advantage is that I don't have to change SIM cards or tariffs or anything when meandering around Europe: my number stays the same, so I can always be contacted if the need justifies the cost to the caller.

I have told everyone who has my number to text me if poss: if they do call me, I ring them back. So it works for me.

We are heading into Portugal in February (we're in southern Spain at the moment). Where are you guys? Any recommendatiuons for RV size campsites?

HNY

Bruce

Hi

Thinking a bit more about this....

To call you, whilst you are in Portugal, I would need to dial an "00372" number - this is the International dialling code for Estonia.

I am thinking therefore, if I dial THAT number, with a suitable call router pre fix in front - from a firm that offers cheap calls to Estonia, is that the solution?

Russell

This does of course means that you need to fully explain to folks in the UK what/when/who they need to dial etc.

Hi Mike

I also use One Roam when abroad and agree with the previous posts, main use is for calling sites to check before arriving, not for being called from the UK, so it works fine for me..

Many thanks to all those who have taken the trouble to explain it all in simple terms.

Since we havent yet moved country a lot, then its still possible to have seperate sim cards, but really, provided you can get wifi, Skype sems to meet the need for making calls.

But I s'pose thats a big consideration!

Presently on Turiscampo at Espiche (www.turiscampo.com )(which has reasonably priced wifi). There are some large RVs here but there is also an Orbitur site down the road, so you would get two chances to find a pitch. We just like this one, its very clean and well run without being regimental

Right, here's the way to do it.

The latest One Roam cards are Jersey mobile no's. Register with 18185 and calls from the UK to the mobile cost 6p per minute.

They may have got wise to this now, but this is how I did it when were in France in August, and it worked a treat

Hi Andrew and others

There is also a firm that gives you roaming on the same basis as OneRoam and the calls that are made to your mobile - ie from people calling you - are made via a call to a mobile domiciled on the Isle of Man.

I used them last year. Would not recommend them. Had difficulty making calls at 'busy' times, would dial but fail to connect? Voice quality was poor at times. Text messages would often fail to send and would have to be sent many times before success and then I found that every one had been sent, received, and charged for!!! Family thought we were going mad sending numerous copies of the same text.
