I've just spent ages trying to find out if there is a CCC site or CS anywhere near Crewkerne in South Somerset. Using T-Mobile GRPS their SiteSeeker is about as slow as it could be without making me chuck my laptop out of the window, and after browsing 4 pages of a 5 page search it decided that page 5 would be from a list of all sites rather than just Somerset . There's no search option for sites open all year, so you have to wade through pages of closed sites, and it's no fun when the web site is so slow.
There only seem to be 18 out of 50 sites in Somerset where dogs are welcome, and 7 out of 24 on OS Landranger 193. And every site is currently closed.
I've read lots of stuff on MHF about how good the CCC are, and thought I might join, but if all sites in such a big area are closed, and most don't accept dogs, what's the point? Or is it just their sites database that is rubbish?

I've found that facility to be very good, with the proviso that you have to wade through all the sites that aren't open . It would be helpful if they had a filter for sites only open now.

I agree with that-ot's a much better search facility than CC in my view. I suppose the only time you need to "filter" for open sites is from Novemeber to March-may be worth dropping them the suggestion

I think every Caravan Club site welcomes dogs, which is a major reason for our patronage.
Don't know about the CCC, but with the CC you get a detailed map showing all their sites (which are numbered) and CLs, plus a fat reference guide which tallies with the site numbers, plus an annual additional guide advising which sites are open all year. Their website is not the best I have ever seen, but it's not bad!!
Both clubs have come in for some stick here recently, and I've no doubt much of it is justified, but overall the complaints are mostly pretty trivial and we have always been happy with the Caravan Club.
You can join on site at your first visit to many of the sites, even if it says "Members Only", and immediately save about Ģ5 per night on site fees. There are lots of other benefits as well, some good and others I wouldn't bother with, but you can take your choice.
None of this is meant to rubbish the CCC, but just to say we are happy with the CC - even if it is run by boring old farts for boring old farts!!
Try searching for a CL on the Caravan Club site, they have an 'open all year' filter.
If your not a CC member or your connection is too slow I'll do a search for you and post details..

I've tried the CC. There's nothing very close, but a couple in Bridport that will probably do.
It wasn't just the lack of open sites though, it was how few seem to accept dogs. There are very few CC CLs that don't accept them, unless they change their mind after a visit from Charlie .

Indeed, it's a sad day when you can filter out kids by selecting 'Adults Only' .. I can foresee the day when RV, Twin Axle, Tag Axle, under/over 65, under 3.5ton, etc filters are added..
