Hello
We were hoping to have a motorcycle rack fitted to the back of our motorhome, but we have a big overhang.

So we are looking to fit a tow bar and revert to using a motorcycle trailer has anyone got any advice they can offer.

Hi, yes silversurfa, we will be doing walking etc, but we are keen motorcyclist, and feel it we want to go off exploring further a field, it would be better or a motorcycle than a heavy juice guzzling motorhome.

Going back to the question, I see a lot of the motorhome towbars seem to have an overun bar welded on is this necessary (legally)(safety) or just cosmetic. We can get a kit for our Iveco Daily chassis, and we are lucky that the chassis comes to within 14 inches from the end of the vehicle. We were also impressed by Watling Engineering, may go down that route, but money a little tight.

Try Towtal Stoke on Trent, they have a web site their works are not state of the art but very nice people their work is first class, you can stay overnight.

I have used them myself and have no hesitation in recommending them.

Ignore silversurfer's anti-motorcycle comments.

We had ours custom made and fitted in a day, cost about £500. The company that did the job is a long way from you though: Bridgwater Trailers in Somerset. We use a box trailer to accommodate two motorcycles.

Hi, am booked in to get some work done in towtal next month including getting a towbar fitted, i would say give them a ring, when i did they were more then helpful in making sure my motorhome could carry what i wanted and them seem very capable.

No hesitation in recommending Towtal, Stoke on Trent - they also fabricate from scratch, finish off well and have an excellent product.

The owner, Bill, is very hands-on and they also have a motorcycle outlet.

We have the Erde trailer as a shortlist, there was a couple my husband was interested in one was bikelug 7 trailer which is collapsible, seems to have not much distance from the front, where as the Erde is big but more substantial. Would this cause a problem on sites , parking that an a 7.13 metre motorhome. We are hoping to go to Spain and Portugal, this year, have booked the Brittany Ferry crossing to Spain, without the trailer, so this would make it a lot more expensive, but would like to get it sorted so that we have options all year around.

As anyone had any experience of the collapsible motorbike trailers?
