I am inside my mates newish RV and we cant figure out how to put the satellite dish up. We can turn on the sky box and there is another remote which I think is for the dish but nowt seems to happen when we press the buttons. Can anyone tell me which button makes the dish go up and search

We have a twin LNB Oyster system - and I know that the twin LNB is slightly different to the standard Oyster vision but we used to have the standard one so I will try to explain as best as a non technical female can, what we did or do in order to operate the dish etc.
In the standard one we had a little box in the wardrobe but your friends could be somewhere else entirely. Just search around in cupboards and lockers until you find a box like that. We just switched the system on with a rocker switch which if I remember correctly was on the top of the box and then we just pressed a button on the same box to operate the dish. The dish automatically searches for the satellite and once it has found it you will be up and running. All this is a bit vague as we no longer have that particular set up and so I have forgotten exactly how we used to operate that one but I think I have more or less explained the gist of it.
Now if your friend has the same system as we do, he will have a little black handheld remote control that operates the dish. First look for a largish box which is usually near to the sky/digi box and make sure the rocker switch is turned on. Then somewhere in the RV you should see a little black box which should now be showing a little light in the LCD screen. Point the remote control towards that and press the button that switches it on, as I havent got the remote control to hand I cannot describe the actual button accurately to you as I need to look at the function buttons to describe it but I believe it is the top left hand button. Look at the little black box with the LCD screen and you should see that the light will start to move as the dish goes up and once it has found and locked on to the satellite it will display some numbers in the LCD screen, if the channel on the television is a foreign one it has more than likely gone straight to Astra 1 for some reason, so in that case just punch in either 1007 or it might be 0007 (sorry I cant remember which it is exactly) into the keypad on the remote control and the LCD numbers should start moving again and the dish will start searching again and if you have punched in the right numbers it should now lock on to Astra 2. If your tv is switched on and tuned in correctly you will see as the dish is searching there will be a message on the tv screen explaining it is searching for Astra 2 etc. Once a signal is found and the dish locks on you will get a picture on screen but this will be coming through the freeview side of the twin LNB system and you will need to switch to another channel to view the programmes coming through the sky/digi box but this too will only function properly if the tv is tuned in to receive the channels coming in through the sky/digibox. If it is the same system as mine there are a few other things your friend will need to do and know in order for him to get the best peformance out of his system but I will tell you all about them once you have let me know if it is in fact the same system.
Good luck.
Sue
** EDIT **
PS the box Russel describes in his post below is the box from the standard Oyster vision set up and now that he has described it - he has refreshed my memory of what it looks like. Like I say the one we have now is the twin LNB one that allows you to use Sky Plus in the motorhome so it very much depends on what system your friend has. I am sure between us all we can assist yo and your pal and help him to get it all up and running. Everyone on here is so helpful and I know I would be lost without them all

Does the Oyster feature a grey control panel? With arrows on and a small display screen?

Hi Sue thanks you have been a great help we've been back out to the RV and have found the little black box [Infa red reciever] which has two buttons I pressed both of them in at the same time and up went the dish searched for the satellite and locked on. The rest of your reply has answered another question we had so thanks very much From Reg & Jan. now converts to our forum.
Hi Russell in answer to your question, No.
Many thanks Wobby

I am delighted I was of some help to you and your friend and it makes me happy to know that you have got it all up and running as I know I can get quite frustrated when things dont work properly etc.
Another little tip that may be useful if your friend ever finds he has a weak or irregular signal is if he looks on his Oyster remote control he will see a button on the keypad saying AV if he presses that he should see AV displayed in the LCD screen of that little black box (infra red receiver) and he should find that when he puts it onto AV this will lock both the signals coming in from both the LNB thingymajigs (not sure what happens really but I know if you do a signal test you can see a diffference to the signal strength when it is in the AV mode) and this then gives a much more reliable and stronger signal however if he wants to then view the freeview channels which allows him to lock on to loads of different satellites (especially useful when travelling abroad) he will have to take it out of the AV mode in order to use the freeview facility. Tell your friend also that if his is the same twin LNB Oyster system like ours, if he wished he can put a Sky plus digi box in his RV and enjoy all the record, pause and playback functions of Sky plus in his vehicle. We have Sky plus in ours which was the main reason we upgraded to the twin LNB system and this means we can record 2 channels at once, pause live TV or record one channel whilst watching another etc, etc.
