Quite a lot of information in the thread, shame to duplicate it with another discussion here.

thats right don

just wanna know if there are any sites with em!
cant really see why this dont happen at camp sites with cafe and club houses where u can keep in contact with you friends and family while on the road.

alot of us use laptops while on the road for gps maps so could access the hotspot with a wireless network card installed.

gotta be a good little earner for campsites

what u all think

Don,

I think I need the help of one of the more knowledgeable members.

My belief was that hot-spots were quite small areas within which internet access could be obtained through a wireless link, often in areas not served by telephone lines with the ability to carry Broadband.
This as against the internet cafe type of place which gave the user access to one or more computers owned by that establishment.

I don't know about campsites but most MacDonalds, PC World's, a lot of motorway Service stations and a lot of pub chains now have internet hotspots, havent tried them but they are quite expensive apparently.
Cheers Sid

If any of you use a hotspot don't forget to secure your own connection. It is very easy, and I do mean very, for any with the right software to access your computer and also piggy back onto the internet through your connection. They can also see files on your notebook. Passwording them is no deterrent as the passwords are on your computer if you know where to look.

Just a word of warning.
