I have TomTom 5 on a HP IPAQ 2210, has anyone managed to get a later version on this type of PDA?

Frank,

I upgraded my Go 700 2 days ago. The anomaly (although phoning the helpline didn't help, they didn't have the answer) is that there are 2 versions for Western Europe. The bigger one includes all the data for 25 countries and the upgrade costs £44.95. The version you have on your Go will be smaller and only have outline data for the Eastern european countries and the upgrade was £39.95.

I only managed to figure this out when I upgraded my Tomtom Home to version 2 and then looked at "all upgrade options". On Home version 1.x it only offered me the £39.95 upgrade and the website only offered the £44.95? They should both be version 7 maps. Make sure you update the operating program too. Lots more features than version 6.x

I asked Tomtom why I was being offered a cheaper upgrade from Home than the website. They didn't know and suggested I not use Home for the upgrade Rolling Eyes anyway, all sorted now.

Hope this helps.

Pete

Let's stick with sorting Franks problem for now.

Firstly, can I point out that there are 2 distinct parts to any Sat Nav product. One is the Navigation software and the other is the Maps.

Version 7 Tom Tom has new features but with certain devices the software update comes free with newer maps. But you need to check compatibility.

Frank, yes it looks like the (somewhat haphazard) Tom Tom home has given you duff info. Hope you get some joy from TT Support. I found them not only to be useless but also somewhat arrogant in their approach and I would rather eat my own arm than deal with them again so good luck there and be firm. Otherwise it will drag on for weeks.

Fatboy and Devonidiot, you should really start a new thread. For both of you try www.tomtom.com and selct your device. It'll tell you. However, I have a PDA and the latest version of TT Navigator Software is 6. You cannot run 7 at this point in time.

Reading between the lines here, I think the problem is that you need Version 7 software to run the latest maps but the software is part of the Map package. So when Home checks for the latest updates it sees you have 6, but sees no software upgrade option so offers you the latest 6 maps.

The more I read this the more annoyed I'm getting, just as i was when I had an issue. And NEVER take what is told to you by TT tech support as a given. If you ring straight back you will get a different answer I guarantee it. Fancy being told not to use the software when you read the instructions and are told to use it! The right response should be "you are correct and we'll look into it. In the meantime what can we do to fix the pickle we put you in" not "Don't use it then"

Tom Tom: Great product, Bobbins support.

OK feel better now, phew. Where's the kettle?

I can't even get newer maps for my TomTom (the first version of the Go, before they had numbers, and one version before the "Go classic").

I e-mailed TomTom support and they replied that they have no updated maps suitable for it, and they don't intend to do any. My TomTom was just coming up 3 years old then (Oct).

When I bought it, I expected the hardware to last 10 years, and to just keep buying updated maps. That was a factor, when I paid over £400.

It does make you think twice about buying a newer one. They release new maps for a year or two (when you're probably still OK with the old map anyway) then they expect you to start again with another new machine.

I know they're cheaper now, but they're still expensive, if they've only got a 2-3 year life.

Hi dbh

I have a TomTOm Classic and upgraded OK.

Are you using HomeV2?
If so check for updates.
