Fortunately Bill, neither you nor anyone else needs to worry about licensing. The Alden Internet via satellite project has been undertaken with the encouragement and active participation of the European Space Agency under the name CampNet.
Special licensing terms have been agreed by the EU and the licensing fee is included in the cost of the system. So it's all legal and good to go. If you want to find out more, click on this:

Thanks for that Andy, but it doesn't actually mention anything about a collective licence agreement across EU member states, all it says is that there is regulatory approval in European Countries, and that could be any one of many!

I have had a quick look at OFcom, and have found a document that details the requirements and procedures for gaining a VSAT license for equipment in the UK, however it is dated early 2006, so I have asked a friend of mine in the VSAT industry to have a look over it and confirm it is still valid, it would be useful though if you could provide the license details for Netmaster, it would help as a point of reference and perhaps clear-up a grey area.

I will let you know what I discover, It might help, you never know.

To access the Internet & Email on the continent all you need is a laptop equipped with built in WiFi, don't worry about the technology. Most sites in Spain & France either offer their own WiFi or have an agreement with a local supplier. Just open Internet Explorer & the local WiFi suppliers connection will appear, follow the instructions, either pay with your credit card on-line or buy a time slot from the campsite reception which gives you a user name & password, some sites like the one we are on now offer free access. Its so simple and very little money.
