(if temporary full-timing isn't a contradiction.....)

We're on the final straight; the finishing line is in sight; we should (please God) be exchanging contracts on Monday or Tuesday next week on the farm, which will put us on track to a 10th April completion date. That will be the day we move into the RV on our friend's farm nearby & put just about everything into storage, pending finding our future downsized home.

Having this as an option has taken a huge amount of pressure off the process, and in fact, we're looking forward to the adventure, which we'll treat as a dry run for spending prolonged periods in the van post-retirement (539 working days now.....).

We've obviously gleaned lots of other FT-ers' experiences, and I know we won't really qualify to call ourselves that. Smile We should take delivery of an Add-A-Room courtesy of Star Spangled Spanner (Duncan/damondunc) next week, and that I'm sure will make life a lot easier (extra freezer/wellies/coats etc.) Any general tips though will be appreciated, right down to How To Avoid Falling Out (and I don't mean out the van....).

So - please wish us luck with the exchange. It's been a difficult run-up, as the buyer has been hung up on several minor issues (most of which he's got hold of the wrong end of the stick about). We should know tomorrow if he now accepts the final Molehill Mountain hurdle.

Dougie.

Dougie

The best of luck to you. I won't say the "best of British".....with reference to your previous post.

Anyway, I'm sure you know what you are doing!

Regards

Tim

We had a terrible fight last night.....my wife asked me what was on the TV and I said "dust".

I treat every day as if it was my last. One day i will be right.

Good luck, Dougie.

'Er indoors has similar plans to yours, except she wants to rent bricks and mortar before settling on an area. I'm not so sure, but we've got 3 years (and a bit) for her to persuade me, or for us to find the locale of our dreams.

But it's definitely the way to do it - sell and then become a cash buyer. When we were looking recently, we kept being asked what our status was, and were told that no seller wanted to commit themselves until they had a cash buyer Rolling Eyes

Fingers crossed for the exchange and subsequent completion.

Gerald

We've got that as Plan B, if and when we feel we've had enough of living in the van. The housing market is reckoned to continue on a long decline for the next 2-4 years, and with cash generating income in the bank on the one hand, less rental income if we have to continue to Plan B, plus reducing house prices on the other, our buying power will increase relative to the length of time we hold out.

Anyway, stop making me tempt fate. Sad Thanks for all your good wishes thus far. My emotional gearbox is in neutral until next week.....

Dougie.

Best of luck

Staying in emotional neutral until next week?

Good idea, but I bet you're not, or if you are, you must have one a hell of a control on your emotions.

I think a straw poll might be in order to find out whether or not this forum should take some of the blame / credit for giving people the courage to leave the bricks and mortar for "life on the open road", as I think Toad said.

Very best of luck as I am off to research the "Add a Room".

Enjoy.

Heh - I'm quite good most of the time, but I accept I succumb to being human on occasions. Rolling Eyes I'm working on suppressing the rising panic each time the EXCHANGE word floats to the top (about once an hour). Sad

Best bet is to download the PDF & browse. We've ordered the superior "LTD" version <sniff>.
