Have read all the posts on this and am still struggling to understand what I need to do to achieve it.
I have a Sony Ericsson W900i mobile phone which was originally used on the vodaphone network. Obtained the T mobile sim cards free as advertised. Placed card in phone and dialled their number as directed and downloaded the software. Then attached phone to laptop with usb cable and tried to download details as directed but no indication that I actually achieved this although phone did show some form of connection!
Possible problems from my perspective:
1. Phone needs to be T mobile.
2. Tried to download phone settings from on line as I cannot find disk not sure I achieved this and do not know how to check.
3. Have tried the laptop with both wifi on and off, not sure which setting I need.
Any advise gratefully received but preferably in idiot jargon and from start to finish.
Thankyou
Ian

With Stew's help I managed to get mine sorted which I am on now! The wi fi on this site is pointless!
My problem was making sure I had the correct software. This for my Motorola V3 was the 'mobile phone tools'. Once connected I then click on the world icon and it connects to the web. No phone numbers are required, at least not on mine.
Reading your post I would say if the phone works with the sim card you are OK. ie can you make a phone call? Did you top up the sim card/register it online?
Assuming it is still the same as when I started then that is all you need to do. The sim card is already registered to do the job. However you may want to call T Mobile on the phone and check it is switched on.
Regards
Chris

Here is my contribution which is more towards the running cost rather than the technical side.
The pay as you go net access is charged at a certain rate per MB downloaded. The daily charge is however capped at £1.
Now, to make your money go further.....
When you are up and running, log on to the

website and register with them. You can use the website to top up and view bills etc. Make sure you are happy to receive all their kind special offers.
There are so many special offers, I need a dedicated book.
Here are the two I use.
Often, those kind people at T mobile send me a message. They say that, if I spend more than £50 on top ups in the next 90 days, they will give me a bonus of a further 20% of my spend.
The next one is even better. Text the word WEB to 441 and you are allowed to surf the net for five whole days for just £2.50 - effectively half price.
Naturally, I top up at Tesco using one of those pink plastic cards. Phone T mobile and ask for one if they have not included one in your pack.
Here are my maths.
Spend £50 at Tesco and top up.
Receive a voucher for 5p per litre of your fuel.
Fill the motorhome with fuel - my tank holds 90 litres but I only managed to squeeze 75 litres in. I there fore saved £3.75 on fuel.
I earned 50 Clubcard points on the purchase of the top up and a further 25 points by paying with my loyal Tesco credit card. These 75 points are worth £3 on a Tesco deal.
At the end of the 90 day period, the kind hearted souls at T mobile credit me with £12.
So, your total credit to T mobile was £62, and taking part in the WEB 441 offer, allows you to suft the net for 124 days.
Factoring in your petrol and clubcard deals, 124 days net access costs you just £43.25!
As for the technical aspect of your phone, it will certainly need to be unlocked, and many smaller outlets will offer to do this for you.

Loaded it on to lap top, connected phone to laptop and then used pc suite to make connection to tmobile, works fine £1 a day max and its only when you need it no monthly charges.
When you connect phone you will have a choice "file transfer or phone" select phone on the mobile phone.

Hello,
I have a Sony Ericsson K800i which I use when on tour.
If you have got the phone set up right with the Tmobile SIM fitted, then you should be able to, without connection to the computer, get the WAP pages on the phone. ie, can you press the internet button on the phone and be able to browse the net. If you can't then you need to either ring Tmobile who will talk you through the settings, or pop into your local TMobile shop and they will do it for you. They are on the net if you know what you are doing.
Once you have got standalone net, you need to do the following,
On the phone, go to the Setting Menu (spanner icon)
Scroll across to the Connectivity menu
Scroll down to USB and select
Select USB internet
Check that under USB data accounts that you have Tmobile account selected
Press back to get to the USB internet menu
Select Turn on (this will enable the USB modem)
Now all you have to do is connect the phone to the computer using the supplied USB lead. When prompted by the phone, select phone mode. The phone should now have a little world symbol telling you that you have a connection. Open internet connection on computer as normal. I use AOL and don't even need to open that software. I just open IE7.
The W900 has similar software to the K800 so I hope this translates. Good Luck
Neil

artona(Stew) I received text from T-mobile and downloaded the info.
G2EWS(Chris) I can make calls and SIM is registered.
Rapide561(Russell) Phone unlocked and works on T-mobile. Offers I was given on registering have currently expired due to length of time it is taking me to sort out.
Martynandlin(Martyn) I believe I selected file transfer so that may be my problem.
Juggler258(Neil) My other phone is a K800i so I will try that instead and with your info am hopeful.
Further question: Does the comupter need to be switched on to wifi to access via phone?
Thanks
Ian
Just read my last line and edited it to read correctly

Can anyone tell me if mobile broadband speed is possible in 3G areas when using the T-moble £1 per day option? I've been looking at buying a 3/vodaphone /T-mobile dongle for some time now but maybe the £1/day T-mobile is a better option?
