Brambles,

The recall number was 4853, at least that was the number put in my Fiat service book.

My fault, yes 4852 not 4825 as I stated earlier. I really must pay attention to detail.

Thanks Rita and Bill,

I am still bemused as to why Fiat Customer support denied all knowledge.

However, mine goes in on 10th Jan to get the extra spacer clips fitted by local dealer who does know about the recall.
Thanks again Rita for mentioning on the threads as if you had not, I would have known nothing about this one.

Jon.

Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know...

As of October 2003, the EU introduced BER (Block Exemption)..

There are chapters and chapters of legislation, but in regards to this issue, the requirements are very clear..

" Any vehicle owner having regard to information about any vehicle and details regarding the vehicles safety compliance, should be furnished with all information necessary to ensure vehicle compliance within the European Union"

In other words, a vehicle manufacturer or its representitives (dealerships) can not with hold information regarding any work carried out or any work that is required to be carried out. Under this legislation, you the driver are still responsible for the safety of the vehicle and are therefore liable should the vehicle not reach the required standard for road use.

Ignorance is not an excuse. The dealerships are still catching up with Block exemption.

Should you have a problem with a dealership or manufacturer, then please remind them of their legal obligations under this legislation.

If you are wondering where this information is coming from, I am assigned to the SMMT BER (Block exemption) Board. If I can help further with this subject then please let me know as we are forwarding details to the Ministry of Transport and the OFT (Office of Fair Trading). They are currently tasking the automotive industry to comply with these regulations.

By the way.. HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR.

The Duncan Family,

Interesting and great to have your comments.
Does this imply then that Fiat must supply me with exact details of any modification if it regards safety or any other matter affecting compliance to any vehicle directive if I ask them?
Also how much do you know about the manufactures obligation to supply details to VOSA regarding recalls?
Many thanks,
Merry Christmas.

Hello everyone.

FIAT have just sent me a recall notice for my motorhome for numbers 4852/4853. Went to Grey's in Warwick to enquire about this and told them that 4852 had been done in Dec 2004 during a service. What I wanted to know was, what is 4853. They said it had something to do with handbrake and that according to their data base mine didn't need doing.

Being a careful sort I've contacted FIAT UK as well for an answer from them so will see whether it matches Grey's.

I mention this for information really. You would have thought owners would have been informed formally before now considering the amount of time FIAT appear to have known about the problem and particullarly as it is a brake problem.

If I get anymore info I'll post it here.

Regards

bill
