We've been thinking about getting 3 PAYG 3G broadband and I have been trying to find out if you can access the internet if you are in an area that only has 2G coverage. I know this was covered in a thread on here late last year, but I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer.
I contacted 3 customer services and got 2 emails back, the first one saying that I would be able to access the internet in a 2G Voice and Picture coverage area and that I'd be 'able to use the services at 15Kbps to 45Kbps speed'.
The second email categorically stated that I would not be able to access the internet at all in a 2G area.
If Three themselves don't know, then what hope have we got?!
Does any one have any experience using the Three 3G dongle in a 2G area? Experiences would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Stimpy

I am using a three simcard in a Nokia E61 phone and it is fantastic but areas do vary. If you order one from Three you will have chance to play with it and return it if no good, but only for a few days

I think that is going to be the case. I don't think three actually has a 2G signal and normally piggy backs onto another company who then only give them a reduced service
I guess if you are in the MH, it would pay to have both Three and a backup such as T-Mobile PAYG braodband.

I'm happy with the 3 for the good reception areas.
My T-Mobile isn't broadband, it's the older version (got it 18 months ago). I'm hoping to be able to put a PAYG SIM in it, and keep it for poor reception areas, where a slow connection on T-Mobile will be better than no connection on 3.
Alternative would be to get the 3 modem unlocked, and just switch SIMs

Hi
I asked Three that when I had problems with my dongly thing. They said the signal strength on my mobile and what was happening with the dongle (nothing) were not related. IE - full signal strength on the mobile will not mean you will be ok with your dongle.
