The Ardennes Easter worth the trip? Forums

Hello all,

Just managed to book a Eurotunnel crossing for a week at Easter with our Tesco Vouchers.

We have no agenda or anything booked.

We have considered

Loire, only ever passed through
Normandy, visited a few times
Rhine, We had our honeymoon there, bit to far?
Isle de France, been many times
Brugge, nice, though been many times
Alsace, too far?
Chamapagne, wrong time of year?

So we thought about the Ardennes? Never been.

Anyone any recomendations or suggestions?

Don't travel too far, there isn't any need. Ardennes is good, but so also is the Somme.
It really doesn't matter, at least you have managed to escape this country for a few days.
We are extreemely jealous, but looking after an elderly father has left us unusually short of holidays.

Thanks for the info/advice. The biggest drag of our Trip is from Manchester to Folkestone, or rather the trip back. So as you said, we did not want to venture too far and thought that Loire, IDF, Belgium or Champagne was reasonable as the driving is much easier on that side of the water.

Yes, we look after my Elderley Step Farther, so I know how hard it can be to get away. I just wish we could take him with us instead of leaving him.

Hi teemyob - I think I would keep a good eye out for the weather in Normandy, Loire and Champagne areas as well as the Ardennes. At that time of the year you will not need to book so armed with a list of sites which are open (or aires if you want), you can then do Plan A, B or C etc. depending on the weather at the time.

What ever you decide, have a good time.

We travelled to the Ardennes in summer 2006 -

Go for it! The Ardennes fantastic, great walking and some lovely villages. But why stop at that? Go just over the border and you are into the Eifel region of Germany and that is just a wonderfull place with mountains, lakes and super places like Moncheau (5 min walk from the Stellplatz)
or a walk around the Rursee (stay on the Stellplatz at Rurberg). It really is great at all times of year.

But the most important thing is - Enjoy your time away!!!

It's always a pity to just pass through the Loire there is so much to see.
What will be open at this Early Easter will probably need research.
Normandy is good for Military artifacts as is Picardy and the Somme.

I think whereever you go just being there is part of entertainment French Markets are a must, dining out is a treat no matter what the calibre of resturant ( always suss out where the French eat NOT the tourists ).
Be prepared to sit and watch.
