''What is the CL& CS network ''

These are certificated locations(caravan club)and certificated sites(c@cc).They are usually small sites at the back of a pub, smallholding, farm or someone with a lot of land or even big garden. They are allowed to take up to 5 units without a licence from the local authority.

There are thousands listed in the respective club site books, they are generally basic facilities, but some have a hook up and showers, and prices vary according to location and facilities.

There are some beautiful CL's AND CS's in some very nice locations, they are cheaper than commercial sites and well worth trying out.

Small sites that can take up to 5 vans run by the 2 clubs. You will have to join either the Caravan Club or the Caravan and Camping Club to use them. Cost approx £6-£10 a night and some with electric. Many are not open all the year.

For the record, I too object to wild camping which is one of the reasons I can't park in many of the towns and even the supermarkets because they have put barriers up.
Would object if someone wild camped out side my house or in our village.

Hi

Would object if someone wild camped out side my house or in our village.

But isn't that part of the equation. I would wild camp, but I wouldn't camp outside someones house. Of course there isn't anything to stop me legally unless it is a private road and then even then there is a process that would take longer to come to action than I would want to stay but morally I wouldn't.

I might in a village though if I find a spot that does not spoil anyone else's life.

I rather think that the point of the original question has been lost.

This is not wild camping in the sense that most people understand and reasonable answers were given to explain this. I see no reason to descend into rudeness.

I can understand skratt and metblue having a different outlook to mine. What I cannot understand is why they have to respond in such an ill mannered fashion. This is an excellent Forum which I have enjoyed being a part of for many years, I don't want to see it becoming a base for a slanging match.

Skratt asked for proof about my view. There was a lot of correspondence in MMM about a year ago about it. I remember that Bridlington and Hunstanton were mentioned as having to tighten up due to "overnighters"

I do not disagree with the concept of wildcamping and would love to do it too. What worries me is that if we all start doing it then there will be repurcussions that will restrict all motorhomers.

I don't have an issue with parking in the streets etc, as long as no nuisance is caused. I just think that if you are working a full time job, it is nice to come home in the evening to relaxation, a bbq, large stiff alcoholic bevarage and a lovely view to while the evening away rather than hiding away in the van, blinds pulled, hoping no one notices you!

This is why I full time using the CL & CS networks, each to their own though, everyone is different, but for £30-£60 a week (inc disposal and usually electric) depending upon location, they cannot be beaten!

Hi ,I would like to know what a CL and Cs is please?

The lists are found on the Caravan Club site ( CLs) and the Camping and Caravanning Club site ( CSs) or in their respective books -which you are given when you join.

I don't know whether you have to be a member to stay at them or can turn up and stay if you are not. I suspect that you do have to be a member. Because they are only licencsed to take 5 vans at a time they do not have to jump through as many planning hoops as the bigger sites. Local authorities can give permission for them without having to have a full planning enquiry. This means that farmers etc can set up a site to make a little extra without having to pay out more than they get to keep on the right side of the law. The owner can simply provide a field and does not have to go to the extra expense of taps, hardstanding, shower blocks etc. Just right for a motorhome.
