Being a tight wad my Arial cost £10 from Wicks. Plus the Telescopic mast.
I have to erect it when we stop then fiddle about for 5minutes to point it in the correct direction but it then works fine.
So far I don't mind all of the fiddling about because I can rarely sit still and it gives me something to do.
But I may change and then I think a Status 530 may do.
My problem is the roof is very busy with Aircon and vents etc all over the place.

Just realised that the directional might not be so good for us, as we wild camp all the time in the middle of Nowhere, so we wont know where to point the aerial, which means we will have a right mess on trying to tune the TV & find the right direction for the aerial.
Has anyone got any recommendations as to which is the best omnidirectional antenna, I noticed Cak Tanks sell a "wing1 antenna" but cant find any other info or a web site.

Thanks for that spykal, you stated in the other post that "if you have Autoroute there is a downloadable file for all the UK TV stations in our download section" I don't seem to be able to find the file, could you please give me some more clues.
THANKS AGAIN
Paul
Edit: Sorry found it now, did not see your second link until after I posted the reply.

I have now tried many aerials costing £10 to £130 and I have found that they are all very dependent on signal strength and consequently there are many areas that we have been where we got no or very poor reception. Usually the low populated areas which is where we tend to tour. All I can say is I now have a £50 sat system from maplin and that works absolutely anywhere but has to be set-up onto a tripod each time we stop. It has shown though that I need to bite the bullet and purchase a permanently fixed sat dish for the roof but they all look so big !! Either that or just stick to the radio and dvd player

I think that you will find omni-directional disappointing for the reasons I gave earlier on. It is unusual in this country for you not to be able to see a TV aerial somewhere to get an idea of direction.( and polarity also vital)
Away from habitation signal strength is often (though not always) lower and so the need for a direction aerial is greater.
There is a lot to be said for the satellite system for the circumstances you describe. A bit more expensive and may use more power but the signal is much the same all over. (It does fall off in north scotland)

and look at getting a copy of The Television Viewers Guide, everything you want with regard to TV aerial set up is in the book, and for those of you who find reception is a problem, every transmission station including relay stations are listed with a map. Check the map, direct your areial, if your set is self seeking it will find the strongest signal, if not self seeking, within the book transmission masts have numbers of the channels for manual selection. I have tried different aerials in the past, non perfect , so I put together my own aerial setup as follows... A 3 metre decorators paintroller extension pole(telescopic), an ordinary domestic exterior TV antenna, easy to put and take down, and stow. The pole is anchored at base and one bracket on side of van. Another tip for best reception,,, from a main transmitter the antenna should be horizontal and from a relay station vertical.

Thanks everyone for you comments & links, I have gone for the Status 530/5, we definitely didn't want a satellite because the TV is mainly for playing DVDs for the kids & only very occasional watching programs by ourselves.
THANKS AGAIN
