Quote :- "I would stick with it. Once you have mastered it your photos will be far better than what the camera jpeg settings will give you.

The main reason we pros use jpg is speed. Messing about with a raw image takes huge processor/ram and takes time customers do not want to pay for"

Stew, isn't this rather a contradiction? Or, am I easily confused?

Hi

I don't think so Ted. If a pro can supply and make his customer happy using jpgs he has optimised his time/income equation.

If I was shooting a landscape that I was taking for myself or to sell over an over again or for a one time large fee I would use raw and spend as long as it took to get the very best image but if I was shooting a wedding with 500 images would a customer want to pay an extra £600 for two days IT work. If they are happy to then I would shoot raw.

Stew....

I played with Bibble and a free release of Phase One as well as Canon's DPP and have to say that LR knocks spots off of those. That's not to say it doesn't have a few warts but in terms of RAW processing workflow it's great. For me it's Library Management isn't that great.

The Development Module is straightforward to drive but the Library Management, in my opinion is far from intuitive and even when you've got to understand it's little foibles it can still trip you up - well it does me anyway. Smile

Printing is so-so and I still go back to Photoshop to do this.

Slideshows - OK but fairly basic.

Web Module pretty good I guess but something I'm not overly interested in.

Hi

Thanks Colin. Hope that helps Frank as well. Having read reports on raw processors I know they all work differently, some better than others, although personal preference comes into play. I guess its like the old days deciding what chemistry/paper to use Very Happy Very Happy

He's also very opinionated and controversial. In the end you need to make your own mind up and I certainly wouldn't pay too much attention to what he says.

Different strokes for different folks.
