Hi Photography lovers,

Well I have been tasked by my Children to be the photographer at their weddings this year, starting with my Daughter in Cyprus.

All seemed well. The Fuji S3 was prepared for the worst, batteries being prepared, books being read and portable flashes are getting very flashy!

Then on my way back from Focus On Imaging at the NEC I had a revelation!

What would happen if I turned up at my Daughters wedding, pressed the button and NOTHING happened! Cold fear gripped me as I began to imagine how my life would have been ripped apart by my Daughter and Ex!

Don't start going on about why should I be taking photos at my Children's wedding just trust me that it is the right thing to do in the unspoken circumstances.

Sadly whilst at the NEC for Focus I had done the Fuji thing and looked at the now nearly year old S5 and not concentrated on anything else. So when I got home I started looking through my last years supply of three magazines which I subscribe to. It became very clear that the best camera by a long shot in this field would be the new Nikon D300.

I joined yet another forum to help me with my decisions and it became clear that a new camera was only half of it. Only a brave man or idiot, they told me would go to a wedding photo shoot with one camera and flash! And you need a new lens as yours are not fast enough they said!

Suddenly my yearning to solve my problems became an expensive nightmare.

This is the list I have eventually decided on as a second system to my already bulging camera bag:

Nikon D300: £999.99
Tamron 17 - 50 F2.8 lens: £249.95
Filters for lens: £29.95
Nikon SB800 flash gun: £210.00
Nikon MB-D10 additional battery pack: £169.00
8 x AA rechargeable 2800mA batteries: £8.58
4 x AA rechargeable 2500mA batteries and 8 bay charger: £12.98
2 x Ultra II Sandisk 2 GB CF cards: £35.98

TOTAL £1,716.43

Whilst part of me is getting excited about receiving this kit after I order tomorrow, the other half is saying, 'now if I did not spend this on the kit, I could buy.......'

Kids, who needs them!

Regards

Chris

Hi Stew,

Beginning to look like a cheaper alternative!

My trouble is I wont buy second best! Wish I could, I would just buy the new S5 and another Sigma flash and lens!

I suppose the benefit of buying this kit is at least I will have it for the future. If I buy your services I wont find you in a bag in my office when I go off at stupid o clock in the morning for a walk! Or will I?

Regards

Chris

Hi Stew,

I have been rummaging around my larger camera bags. Found a large Lowepro unused that may just fit you all! Will have to carry out some checks with the tape measure Laughing

That's it!

Ordered the D300 and MB-D10 battery grip from T4 in Swindon, paid a little extra but happy to get it locally!

Batteries, chargers and CF cards ordered from 7 days shop and awaiting a lens from my mate Artona!

Looking forward to playing around!

Hello,

Many years ago, say twenty. My Father-in-Law asked me (talked me into) doing some wedding photograhps for a family Freind who were on a budget.

We rolled up, with our film! he had a Cannon and I a Pentax ME Super. He did the photos in Church and , I did the outdoor as agreed (Father-In-Law dictated).

Took the photos, he was to develop his own in his darkroom, mine went to the Camera Shop.

BUT

He only shot one 36 exposure roll of 35mm and he had not wound it in to the take-up spool correctly. In short, they only ended up with Photographs outside of church.

SO

Take at least two cameras, plenty of shots and fingers crossed. Though I guess reading this and other posts of yours, you probably have that sussed.

I guess, you could always invite some Photo Keen MHF members and save the money for something else, more booze!.

Good luck with the D300 if you go for it, excellent choice. Mind too if I could bear to part with so much on a camera.

Trev.
