Can anyone help me with regard to the effectiveness of a free standing awning which willl attach to side of the M/H and stand on site.
I have an Omnistore fitted awning on my M/H.
It it best to have a steel frame and acrylic outer or will polyester and fibreglass frame be sufficient?
Ideally I would like one with an inner tent.
What is the best place to buy one at resaonable cost and what fitings are required for the side of the M/H?
I think one that packs up small for carrriage and storage on board is essential.

I have been pondering over the same question for several months.
I have even considered a gazebo with four sides, as at least this can be used elsewhere, although not high enough to clear the motorhome door, so would have to sit away from the side of the 'van.
Gazebo's are also much easier and quicker to erect, but would need much more securing in higher winds.
Choices, choices !!!

We purchased a gazebo for the same reason, it can also be used else where, ours is 3MX2M with 4 zip up sides and two of the sides have windows. The problem is we traded in our motorhome before we had chance to put it to good use. roll on next month. The only slight problem with a gazebo is storage it stands about 4 ft tall when packed and weights about 16Kg (dry).
We got it from the Youk show last year as there were plenty of dealers to view the different types all in one place.

I shouldn't post at 3 in the morning, as I was asking just the same thing last night! I've been looking at dayrooms of which there are only one or two around. Plus side and back attachable standalones.
I think that what I'm going to do is get a small back entry light attachable that can be porch or bedroom or both if big enough - just a bit worried about getting the back door open inside it as I've got bike rack fitted.
I don't want to walk through someone's bedroom, or move all their stuff to go out of the side door, and have a room I can't really sit in so I'm aiming for a dayroom, or side driveaway. (The back ones stand up too). I love the 'Hyacinth Bucket' ones with the proper room look, but lightweight is probably better if size/weight is problem.
Then you can leave someone on site with their bed, gear in the small one and also somewhere nice to sit. I'm just a little worried about what sites allow you to have. Mind you, I've seen the caravan setups and they look like mini villages on one pitch!
Bet you've looked at all the awning sites - I fancy Jeff Bowen for advice/cheapness and 'slight seconds' bargains. They just haven't got quite what I want yet. - Waiting for an employee to spill his tea on one of the nice ones!!!! (Everything comes to those who wait.......).
Have you seen the PDQ ones? the better one doesn't look too bad for a quick fix, then you could have a dayroom too, as the PDQ stays on the van. You only carry the pole inside. Rig in 2 mins they say.
Good luck, - Helena.

Thanks for all this information. I will not go for a gazebo as I want a proper fitted but lightweight stand alone unit that will not blow away in the night. I have been considering the Outdoor Revolution Movelite XL at under £200. This has polyester fabric outside and a fibreglass frame which will fit onto my Omnistore awning.

My main concern is the number of postings on here from people who have bought a driveaway awning, say they have used it once, and it now sits in the garage unused because it is such a pain to erect.
