The Desk on the fascia is fixed solid and cannot be raised no matter how much force is used. Local Fiat garage are mystified. Does anyone have any experience of this, and what has to be done?

Hi chris,

Just had a look at mine, the clipboard is supported inside by a two piece hinge with a spirally loaded spring that holds it in the raised position, i would think that somehow the hinge spring has failed or jammed, so there would be no way of opening it without force and damage to the unit. It looks quite easy to remove the unit as a whole by taking out the radio and removing the 2 screws on top of the dash, if your Fiat dealer is 'mystified', i would suggest they 'unmystify' themselves, remove the unit, and get you a new one under warranty. Wink Assuming it's still under warranty of course.

pete.

Do you have a passenger Air Bag fitted if so the writing pad is fixed down. It something to do with the operation of the air bag

Yes, I do have a passenger airbag, so this could well be the answer! Neither the converter, Fiat agent who I got the motorcaravan through, or my local Fiat agent know this! When bank holiday is over I will contact Fiat direct for confirmation.

Thanks!

When I asked for the passenger air bag I was told at Murvi that I would not be able to raise the writing desk.
