Don't you think its about time we moved over to KPH? At school children are taught the metric system our money is metric and yet we still stick with MPH I think that is just plain stupid! after all how many kids these days know what a mile is (1760 yards Confused )

Well, it would certainly solve the problem of carol's new Rapido with it's speedo calibrated in KMs!

But seriously, who can do anything but agree. Because all of our kids are leaving school with no real clue of what a mile, pint or ounce is, it must surely only be a matter of time before we switch completely to the metric system. This no-mans-land that we put ourselves in now just creates more confusion for everyone. We can learn a lesson here from Ireland, which was presunably based completely on the Imperial system a generation ago, but which has now standardized on the metric system throughout.

Wobby

Have you thought of the cost involved?
If we go to kph then to make it relevant we would have to read all our distances in Kilometres.

For a start all signposts would have to be converted from miles or carry both miles and kilometres. Think of the number of motorway signs alone which would need altered.
Can we really afford to do it to please a few owners inporting foreign motorhomes when the rest of the country couldn't care less?

My goodness, you'll be wanting us all to drive on the right soon like the rest of the continent.
Mad fool. Smile

Hey - its not going to be me that changes the system.

What we are talking about here are 15 million children and teenagers in this country who definitely WILL care when they are in a position to do something about the fact that the measurement system in this country is totally alien to them.

Sure nothing will change for another ten or twenty years. All I am saying is that eventually this country will adopt the metric system whatever us grey- tops think. Sure the cost will be formidable, but it will be a justifiable expense for our kids because the alternative - sticking with a measurement system which to them will be defunct - would ultimately be even more expensive!

As for the age-old left-hand or right-hand drive issue, I agree that the task of switching would now be so colossal that it is unlikely ever to happen.

Sorry but I like MPH, and want to keep MPH. It one of them things that makes us different.

Why not get the rest of Europe to change to MPH?

Richard

Not too sure that is how it was put across at the start Smile... our kids are all being taught metric.... once we have all gone to the big aire in the sky what do you think will happen...

And to say the rest of the country couldn't care less is a bit of a sweeping statement ...Smile

I've voted, but (true to form), I have to say this is the first time I've ever seen the word "no" spelt wrongly. Laughing

Hello,

Kilometres are much easier, there are 1000 metres in a kilmometre.

How many feet or yards in a mile?

Trev.
