Hi All

Right.....i`m in the market for a solar panel. The only trouble is I haven`t a clue what i need.Working out from a chart will not help at this stage,so would just like your advice on what size panel you`d reckon I would need. Rolling Eyes I have one avtex tv on the way with a view of having another one later on for the rear bedroom,as well as all the normal stuff like lights water pump ect.I have two 90amh leisure batts if that helps.I was thinking something in the region of a 130 watter, but maybe that is overkill, maybe it`s not. Very Happy any advice is welcome.Thanks.

steve

Me too, Steve, only don't tell Annie - we're supposed to be saving for retirement Confused

Spacerunner, who does stuff and we follow, bought a 130W / 140W unit last year at a show, and I seem to remember they paid £500 fitted.

I think if I were to do it, I'd go for as big as reasonably possible. 85W would probably do, but if you're going to do it, I'd do 130W / 140W.

Self-fitting seems to be straightforward, but getting a deal at a show would suit me better Very Happy

Thanks Steve and Gerald Very Happy

Gerald.Ah,just as I thought.130 watt seems to be the one from what little research that I have done.I agree, fitted at a show would be the way to go for me.If I make a mistake,I`ve got no-one to shout at Laughing

£500.00 fitted Cool that sounds good to me,but who with? The panel alone would surley come to that on its own.

More importantly you need to decide the size and space available on the roof. Remember the majority of solar panel lose up to 80% of there output if ANY shadow falls anywhere on them. Only the very expensive lower output units are unaffected by shadow.
Shadow from a Status aerial or Satelite disk are the obvious culprits, so siting is important.

The Cheapest and best you buy now.

Bought two 80w BP solar last winter cost £270 each.

Come the new season expect to pay £420

linked to 3 x 110ah batteries and a Secca 30ah Control unit. Trouble and stress free, we can even run a small domestic washing machine off them.

Trev.

We have 2x 120amp batteries and an 85 watt solar panel fitted by A.Butt at the Stratford show last year. Best thing we ever did as van is always topped up without plugging it in when idle and do not need electric now (except in middle of winter for our oil heater)

WOULD RECOMMEND A.BUTT BUT PHONE UP BEFORE THE SHOW AND BOOK THEM TO MAKE SURE AS THEY ARE VERY POPULAR. tHEY DID A BRILLIANT JOB AND WE PAID MORE TO HAVE THE VISUAL regulator so we could see how much sun was going into the battery.

If you want 2 tvs maybe the 130 watt if you can afford it.
