Seemed to have spent hours looking at MHF forums etc re:internet....and still not 100% sure about what I should do.
We are off next week for 4 months around France, Spain, Portugal, Italy etc...kids need to use internet for school work etc and I need access to catch up with work, emails etc.
I have looked at all providers and I feel that Vodaphone cd work for us, in the sense that we can twice a week get 24hour connection for £8.50/day and then the rest of the time hope that we come across free sites etc...any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
G

That works out at £34 a month..... I know nothing of this Vodaphone but are you sure it is £8.50 a day and not a MB(which would be for upload AND download)...as that was the way they usually priced.....

If you are with BT broadband you automatically get 250 minutes wifi per month. You can also join Fon and get access across a massive range of home routers.
Check http://www.btfon.com/

HAve spoken to Vodaphone today and it is £8.50/day 24 hours... you do have to pay a fortune for the USB though around £150!!

We have just come back from two months away in France and Spain. The market is changing day by day and if you check out BTOPENZONE you will find offers re international access, including hooking up with Telefonica. We called BT while away and Openzone minutes are not valid internationally.

For Spain a lot of sites have Delfi Net. We cannnot be sure but we think a thirty day pass works in all Delfi net sites.

For Fon we signed up or own router in exchange for access abroad. The reality is that FON sites are hard to locate and if you are lucky they are actually switched on. We did not find one even using POI on a TOMTOM 720 and a Skype WIFI phone.

My recommendation is to go with as many options as possible. Look at "3" as they charge £3.50 a megabit. When we were coming back we stopped in Honfleur. We paid for a day on Orange, then went supermarket shopping, came back to the Aire, only to find a "free" wifi access..

Italy is disaster with "data protection" used as the excuse for WIFI not functioning. Always plead and say say you need to move on if you don't have internet access. It works! 3 have their own network in Italy, so I think that works if you have a modem.

Gerry is this not for UK? Genevieve was asking for the EU I think, UK isn't difficult to work out these days, it is the EU bit that is harder.

3's USB seems to be quite good but I have no knowledge of it.

Thanks for the replies, yes, def for EU.
HAving read lots of threads...I guess, I am a bit wary of the extra chanrges you incur for going over your limit...hence why unlimited sounded good??
I guess, I would like to stick to one method of connecting as time, easability etc come into play!!

If you are moving from country to country there is no magic answer.

You either get satellite internet or get screwed up trying to get this deal or that deal..........this should work ..........yes that will definately work..... we have good coverage in ..........,

The bottom line is some of these deals will work in some of the places you may want to go and some won't.
