Never get close enough to the bottom of the cellar to justify filling Moron Brown's coffers.

. This afternoon, I've subscribed (the princely sum of £5.20 per annum) which gives you access to all of the deals they find. You can also get email alerts based on key phrases (I've selected red wine, Hardys and Carlsberg, amongst others), so when a new offer comes up, I will know about it straight away Very Happy

Incidentally, does anyone else find that French red wine tastes far better in France that it does here? Shocked

Gerald

I brought a few dozen bottles of red wine back from France last year and found that most of it was "rough" like vin ordinaire even though I had paid 4-5 euros a bottle at the supermarkets to try to ensure that I was not taking home rubbish. The white wine (Loire etc.) was more reliable but I prefer red and usually stick with Southern hemisphere. This year we have "joined" France Passion with a view to "try before we buy" when we go there again in June.

Good idea Dave;

Me being a bit of a v-collapso connaisseur then I would recommend you subscribe to the Aldi, Netto and Lidl email newsletters, they always have reasonable quality wine on offer most weeks.

Netto have Stowells 'Taste of France', 4 for a tenner starting tommorrow thats might be worth a punt.....

Somerfield - World Estates red, rose & white, £3.49 a bottle was £7. A bit pricey for me but the wife likes it Rolling Eyes .

I think nowadays if you shop around you can now get some good stuff in UK thats very similar in price to France. Having said that, you can't beat those 5ltr specials from Auchan lol.

Hardys Crest usually £7.99 just being sold by my local Supermarket £3.97. Not much use though unless you come to Staffordshire.

Hi Ed

Yes, Aussie is our fave, although every year we bring back French wine in the mistaken belief we're going to enjoy it. And it ends up in chilli or any number of other meals. And yet the tiniest, smallest bar has very palatable red wine by the bucketload.

We've done the France Passion thing, with limited success, it must be said. Others have done better. I wish you well with it, and keep a record of where you go so we all know where to head for!

Laughing

Talking of 'vino collapso' I remember visiting a nice little cave near Mont De St Michel where they sold ridiculously cheap 10ltr boxes, you could also get 15ltr ones but that would just have been greedy.

I had several boxes stashed in my exterior 'bar', dread to think what the rear axle load was.....
