Hi, i have just got home after a few days away and my desktop will not switch on, i have changed all the fuses, the screen lights up, the printer switches on but the tower refuses to burst into life.

Are there any fuses inside the tower i can check, i have got the cover of but i can see nothing that indicates a fuse.

Any ideas please.

Bob

Hi Bob

First point of call for me would be the power supply. A local PC shop will change it for you. Easy job and not too expensive.

Hi Bob

These days, the power switch doesn't turn on the power - it goes straight into the motherboard, which then switches the PSU on. Therefore, try unplugging the mains cable from the computer, leave it for 10 seconds, and then plug it in, and try pressing the button then.

Failing that, Crying or Very sad a new PSU might be the only answer.

Gerald

Id also try another power lead to the tower first incase its just a broken wire in this lead. They are usually the same as a kettle lead so just nick the kettle one to check.
Failing that - sounds like PSU

Just as a matter of interest, is the PSU difficult to exchange, i.e. technical knowledge required, or tricky installation or is it just a unplug and plugin thing, the reason i ask is that everyone i ring to check it want Ģ45/60 Per.Hour plus parts.

That's footballers wages as far as i'm concerned, i think a course of further education on P.C. building is on the cards.

Hi Bob

Not that hard mate but you need to make sure you have the right one. Are you going any where near Newark. I used a very good pc place there recently.

I have also emailed someone who might be able to help you

Bob

I can talk you through a PSU exchange over the phone, they are quite straight forward.
