Help, I am looking for a site in Southport from Friday 18th July until Monday 21st July for the Open Golf. Everywhere seems booked up, does anybody have any advice on sites?

Thanks

Can only suggest the ones you have probably tried, but should you wish to Wildcamp overnight then you could go to where I often go when I want to get away from it all. Not the most scenic of places but quite safe and a good place to walk a dog.
Follow the COASTAL road from Southport to Preston. Stay right up to the sea (on your left) and you will come across a small area for cars to park, overlooking the sea, at the Wild Bird Marshlands. (Make sure you don't turn into one of the paid areas.) It is called Marshside if you need to ask anyone. Just a patch of wasteland looking out to sea, lots of wild birds and birdwatchers visiting so not deserted.
Oh, did you try the site at Ormskirk and also there is one at Lathom. These are only a short drive from Southport. The one at Lathom isn't usually booked up. Tawd Vale, Lowry Hill Lane.

Hope you find a site , there seems to be a lack of info for camping on the web for sporting events , we went to the europeon GP in germany last year and had a real Job trying to find somewhere to camp. All sites were full so we stayed in a car park !! Lucky we had a solar panel. We are off to spa in belgium for the GP there in sept has anyone got any tips ?

Merseyside County Scouts have a site at Tawd Vale. I have emailed the manager to ask if they can open it up to vanners and tuggers. Will not find out until next Wednesday.
Failing that why not use a site on Wirral (open host in 2006) and use Merseyrail to Birkdale. If you are old enough you can use your bus pass.
