2 months in France using a GPRS card on the laptop for internet connection and 2 mobile phones, all on one contract with Orange (UK) and the bill is standing at (wait for it) £4992.00 YES £4992.00

Many calls & letters to Orange going on now...

So if you have one of the New GPRS Cards - Be Sure to check out the rates first...

Hi Loire,
I don't know how to spell whaow!!
I have a Vodafone GPRS card with a £20 / month contract that includes 75 Mb per month of data transfer. BUT it does not include any transfer when roaming, which is charged at £5.88 per Mb. It is very difficult to get this info., it took me two long 'phone calls ( result nothing) and an email eventually got it. A little bit of browsing of MHF and getting some emails cost me £116 in one month.
The good thing about it is that you do get reasonable speed (better than dial-up) and I got a signal almost everywhere I went in France. The irony is that I cannot get a signal, except in the lounge window, where I live.

blimey now that is def cause for concern, don't exactly understand how you ran up such a bill, did u use the net a lot away, or did u forget to turn gprs off and had something running in the background somehow that was running up the kilobytes ?

I use a gprs card from vodafone and have not managed to run up a huge bill despite using it a fair bit.......... simple answer... it is pay as you go..... if you havent paid for it you cant use it, really easy to top up the credit online where ever you are using a debit card, and a definte way of controlling the phone bill. card itself cost me £29 on ebay... vodafone will tell you it wont work on pay as you go unless you bought it from them as a package, but that is simply not true if you know how to configure it correctly ... anybody wanting to use one of these cheap gprs cards off ebay with a payg sim e mail me and i will tell you how its done. (dont worry its all above board) i just dont think the vodafone helpline have the tech expertise to work it out...

i have been looking into this & tried several firms O2 range Virgin Vodaphone T Mobile

Only Vodaphone could supply anything for use abroad

ALL the others told me that what I wanted to do was impossible

So may be this is the reason for the large cost

Vodaphone say you only pay to down load data & dont charge while you are reading/ writting

I now understand that the Vodaphone system is also available by Pay as You Go

I would like some comment about this from someone
