Following an earlier thread on this subject it became personal to me yesterday.
I took my van in to the dealer who is receiving it in part exchange for a new one. While handing over the various bits and bobs he asked me for the code card, which I did not have.

He then asked me to sign a disclaimer saying that I would cover any costs in getting the card if it was needed in the future, but to get the card myself if I could.

So I got on first to my supplying dealer, who told me that the converters (CI Autotrail) had removed the cards at the request of Fiat, and I would have to contact them.

So I spoke to them this morning and was informed that I was not allowed to have the card, and if the details were required the Fiat dealer would contact them for the details.

When I told him that the part exchange dealer was stating that I would be responsible for any costs incurred if the details were needed (they are not Fiat agents) he said they could not do that, and to get them to contact him.

So I have left it for them to sort out, but what a ludicrous situation-after spending £30k on a van I am not trusted to have the code details, but am threatenedwith costs if any subsequent owner/dealer needs the info!!!

I told the CI man that some owners did have the cards, and he admitted this was true but only because they (CI) had slipped up in their case.

Sometimes this industry really does make you wonder. Rolling Eyes

Hi oldenstar,
The dealer is wrong in his interpretation of Fiat Key Code cards, they are not used any more. Your van will be registered with Fiat, so an input of the chassis/engine number of your old van into a main Fiat dealer computer will have the information required for key replacement.

Fiat Code Cards have been supplied with every one of our new Hymers.

The most recent was only collected 3 weeks ago and one came with the vehicle. - all of which have been imported from Germany and are lhd.

Obviously the rules in Germany are different - but it shows that the cards do still exist.

think it may have been myself who started previous thread. We also have the Trigano Tribute 550 and wanted another electronic key for the van because we have the Thatcham 1 alarm and really needed 2 keys.

Fiat dealer asked for key card or else they would charge us for getting the number, presumably from computer. Instruction books tells us to keep key code card safe, we asked dealer for it and were told the same story - they don't give them anymore.

After Fiat dealer said we would be charged to code the key without the card, we told our motorhome dealer this and again asked for this. We got it supplied free from Ci (Trigano) and used it earlier this month when we eventually got our spare key - for the sum of £137.50 including VAT. This was for the key fob and we had to pay for time for them programming the key. They were also going to charge us for programming the code till we pointed out we had the card.

Seems this is a bit of a rip-off. Don't give you the card then charge you to get the number when you need it.

Code card now so safely hidden we probably won'tbe able to find it.

Thanks for that-it would appear that to get a spare key will cost an arm and a leg wether you have a code card or not!

As my new van is also on the Fiat, from a French manufacturer, it will be interesting to see if the dealer does give me the Code Card when I collect the van in a week or so-given that I am unable to supply one with the part-ex which is less than a year old.

Will report on the new van when it arrives.

Hi; With my new Carthago I got a red plastic card on a key ring marked Code card. On it there is a bar code with a bunch of numbers and META system, is that what your referring to.
